LOCAL ADVENTURERS: Dr. Gulshan Sethi, Part 3

As you know, Dr. Gulshan Sethi left Los Angeles with his traveling companion Jeremy Wekell on March 20. After a brief stop in Dubai, they arrived in Delhi, India's capital territory on March 23rd. We have been following their travelogue on facebook and are honoring my pinky promise to a dear friend and continuing to track our very special wanderer Dr. Gulhsan Sethi's pilgrimage through India. We plan to cover his adventures in India for at least another five weeks. We have quite a collection of photos to show you, I hope you enjoy them as much as we have. This week we have picked up where we left off last week.

Now I'd like to switch seats and go to our Next Gen. This young entrepreneur, believe it or not, is a Beth office helper from back in the day, only a few years back. Look at this young next generation rising star now; a quick graduate of The University of Arizona, a young urban farmer and master money manager already, and not yet 25 years of age. Oh, by the way, he's an Eagle Scout.

WELLNESS: Gout, Intermittent Fasting, Raw and Vegan Food

Gout is a painful and very common condition that effects millions of Americans. Thankfully, Gout can be managed and flare-ups avoided by lowering high blood pressure, reducing weight, staying hydrated and following an anti-inflammatory diet like the ones we have previously discussed here in The Flock.

Gout – Causes, symptoms, and management options

From: Explorerance, By: David Smith

Gout, a type of arthritis, is characterized by severe inflammation, swelling, and redness in the joints. While it can affect any joint in the body, it mainly affects the big toe joint and, sometimes, the lower limb. The affected joint becomes extremely tender and causes excruciating pain when touched. Those with the symptoms should visit a doctor to seek a timely diagnosis. The proper treatment can help control the discomfort and facilitate recovery.

Intermittent fasting: The positive news continues

From; Harvard Health Publishing, By: Harvard Health Publishing Staff, February 28, 2021

There’s a ton of incredibly promising intermittent fasting (IF) research done on fat rats. They lose weight, their blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugars improve… but they’re rats. Studies in humans, almost across the board, have shown that IF is safe and effective, but really no more effective than any other diet. In addition, many people find it difficult to fast.

But a growing body of research suggests that the timing of the fast is key, and can make IF a more realistic, sustainable, and effective approach for weight loss, as well as for diabetes prevention.

Best Raw Vegan Dining from Around the World

From: Vegan Travel

Raw vegan dining has deservedly become so much more popular and mainstream in these last few years. And it’s not just raw vegans who delight at finding new raw vegan restaurants to explore while traveling, there are plenty of non-exclusively-raw vegans and non-vegans who have discovered the incredible melody of taste a well-prepared raw vegan meal can have. Not to mention the obvious health and nutritional benefits of adding more raw plant-based meals to our diets. As with all vegan dining choosing raw vegan is compassionate dining, and therefore deserves our thoughtful consideration. Choosing raw doesn’t mean depriving our tastebuds either, this list shows some of the best raw vegan dinning from around the world. The restaurants shown below were dynamically generated and sorted by your reviews and the reviews of your fellow vegans. We accept no advertising. Our goal is to provide a platform that truly respects and mirrors our collective vegan opinions and perspectives. As our global vegan community adds additional listings for raw vegan establishments, and as we review and rate our favorites, the resulting listing will continually, and more accurately, reflect our global raw vegan dining preferences.

The World's Best Raw Food Restaurants

From: American Expresss Essentials, By Fiona Brutscher

The jury's out on whether an all-raw diet has any health benefits, but there's no doubt that unprocessed, uncooked plants should make up a significant part of the food we consume. Raw food restaurants offer strict adherents the opportunity to sample complex and adventurous dishes they might not be able to replicate at home, while omnivores can enjoy a healthy and fascinating detour from their usual dining experience.

What you Need to Know to Adopt a Tortoise

Fom: Arizona Game & Fish

Each year the Arizona Game and Fish Department adopts out hundreds of captive desert tortoises that are surrendered to the department. These tortoises cannot be released back into the wild because captive tortoises can transmit diseases that can decimate our wild population. Desert tortoises are nontraditional pets, but are fascinating animals and families can gain an appreciation of desert wildlife by caring for a tortoise and watching its natural behavior.
