REACHING HIGH: Everest Base Camp (part 3)
Hey team we're still reaching high and higher. This week we have a comparison between Everest Base Camp and the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro - which is 2,000 feet higher. I've decided to feature the seven big summits, so more to follow on reaching higher.
Kilimanjaro vs Everest Base Camp
How High is Kilimanjaro Compared to Everest Base Camp?
From Peak Planet, In Blog, February 1, 2018
So you are thinking about tackling one of the challenging items on your bucket list this year. You are an adventurous person and like to hike. Should you do Everest Base Camp or Mount Kilimanjaro? Both are epic trips, they require a big fitness commitment and both cost a lot of money. How do you decide?

Everest Base Camp or Mount Kilimanjaro

Trekking to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and the Everest Base Camp trek rank as two of the most popular treks in the world. Both mountains are the highest peaks on their respective continent. Every year Kilimanjaro has up to 50,000 people attempt its peak and correspondingly 40,000 attempt Everest Base Camp. The allure of the amazing scenery brings both the expert climbers and the novice alike.

With both treks being highly rated by travelers, it can be hard to decide between an Everest Base Camp or Mount Kilimanjaro trek. To help with that decision, many people ask which one is more difficult.

YOUTH ENTREPRENEURS
My version of youth entrepreneurs is helping promote youth to strive. I like to encourage youth to live their dreams early, pursuing goals, saving and keeping a checkbook, and inviting others to work with them building teams. I saw this several years ago in two young girls, Anna and Zoe, who had started their own business working with and training pets. Today these same two young women, working with their family, have set up one of the best tennis programs in Colorado. They also brought in a young student from their previous business named EJ to help cover for them should they be out of town. That's youth helping youth. There grandpa Jelko, a senior tennis pro, and baka (grandma) Lela as cook and nutritional advisor to the family and visiting elite coaches from around the world, especially Croatia and Serbia. This week we are featuring Ivona Horvat, an amazing professional coach who has worked with Great Britain's tennis program, transformed Turkey's tennis program, coached rising stars in Croatia, and continues to work with rising professional stars worldwide. Next week we are featuring professional tennis coach Ana from Serbia.

The Importance of Emphasizing ‘fun aspect’ Says Horvat
From Tennis Talk , By Kylie Klotzbach, September 2, 2018
“Have fun with it,” a phrase that is often tossed around in tennis, but also one that players and coaches tend to forget. As players rise through the ranks of the sport, it is all too easy to forget the reason why they fell in love with the game in the first place. In most cases, that reason is that they simply enjoyed playing.

Ivona Horvat, a former WTA player for Yugoslavia and Croatia, recognizes the importance of emphasizing the ‘fun’ aspect of playing tennis. After finishing her professional career, Horvat took up coaching, which has been her professional for the last 23 years.

She spent time in Turkey, completely transforming the system and producing the country’s first international players. This past January, she moved to Sweden where she splits time between two roles. In the mornings, she works with the high-performance players at the Good to Great Academy. In the afternoons, she takes on the challenge of running five courts at the Royal Club.

The success that Horvat has experienced throughout her coaching career can be attributed to her players-first mentality. She believes that her experiences as a player have helped hone her skills as a coach. “I always think first as a player, then as a coach,” she explained.

I've always loved farms and what they give back. Did you know, if you grew up on a farm, your immune system is stronger than city dwellers. I present Farm Mission Global as an example of the good work people are doing.

ARTIST'S CORNER
I met a new friend by accident at the Aspen Golf & Tennis center and it was America's very own Randall Goosby. We previously met at the Kennedy Center at a memorial for a dear friend we lost a year ago, Dr. Milton Corn. Randall is a violin virtuoso perhaps the next Itzhak Perlman, who he mentored under.

Randall Goosby: the rising star violinist on his hope to bring music to a wider audience
From BBC Music Magazine, By Brian Wise, November 23, 2021
Between the entrances, bows, dramatic pauses and other wordless rituals of the concert stage, Randall Goosby ponders what truly connects him to his audiences. ‘I look back at the audiences that I’ve stood in front of, and I try and think about the things I have in common with them other than our interest in classical music,’ he says. ‘There are probably little to none. And I’d like for there to be a little bit more of a real community around this music and more knowledge of the fact that this music really is by and for everyone.’

Goosby comes to his views not just as a Juilliard School-trained violinist who has studied with Itzhak Perlman, performed at Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall, and plays on a loaned ‘Sennhauser’ Guarneri del Gesù from 1735. He is also the 24-year-old son of an African-American father and a Korean mother, who enjoys video games, cross-training workouts, the NBA, sushi and hip-hop. He believes there is an audience that shares such passions which has eluded traditional concert halls. ‘As much as I love performing in big halls with big orchestras, I want to put the same level of commitment into performing and interacting,’ he says. That means ‘being with members of communities that are currently not really a part of this classical music community.’
