REACHING BIG: Summer Solstice June 21, 2022
On the solstice, I was so impressed watching the collective joy of the Peruvian people who mades very long foot treks into Cusco to honor ancient traditions. I also find it impressive the peoples have their after life bases covered: due to the Spanish cultural influence, they walk two after life roads, one of Christianity and one of paganism.
Inti Raymi
Inti Raymi 2022
The Inti Raymi festival in Peru is a feast of the Sun God and Pachamama (Mother Earth), the main Gods of the Inca civilization. These Gods were considered to be the creators of all that exists. They rule over the destiny of mankind and the universe!

This Inca festival of Inti Raymi is the most luxurious, large, and colorful celebration to be performed in Cusco as it was originally dedicated to an Incan ruler, considered to be a demigod for his people. The Sun was to be worshiped and offered sacrifices to avoid that it would leave the Earth and its children during its long journey while it ensures its return providing heat and joy.
The interesting question is when is Inti Raymi celebrated? It is because, it is held on the 24th of June at present time, while the authentic celebration took place on the 21st of June, a Southern Hemisphere winter solstice. It was moved on the 24th probably to prevent it would merge with other catholic feasts.
WELLNESS CORNER: Nerve Pain
I have friends who complain about tingling in a toe, finger, or joint. As a long time student practitioner of healing touch I haven't had a lot of success treating nerve discomfort. Searching for a treatment I happened across this site in a wellness magazine. I wanted to share it with you all.
Nerve Pain Relier
Watch: The ‘Nerve Pain Relief’ You Can Do Without Leaving The House
From Wellness Guide 101, June 7, 2021
Relieving nerve pain was once thought to be virtually impossible without expensive — and potentially risky — surgical procedures.

So while the rich and privileged who had access to the world’s best surgeons may have been able to put an end to their neuropathy nightmares…

For the rest of us, we had to accept the pins and needles, numbness, burning sensations, and sleepless nights as an inevitable part of life.

But thanks to a new breakthrough discovery, everyday Americans now have an affordable and safe way to stop nerve pain for good.
EDUCATION: Not Just for Kids
Not just for kids. Back in the day in Hawaii one of my students wanted to raise salt water fishes. If you see the fish below, you are seeing the tank that my young student built and maintained with water extracted 2000 feet from the shores of the big island. This young student later became the number one surfer in the world. His tank had a Humuhumunukunukuapuaa, unfortunately it didn't make the "Big Screen".
5 Finding Nemo Fish Species In Real Life
From AZ Animals, By AZ Animals Staff, June 8, 2022
Pixar’s Finding Nemo earned its place as an animated classic thanks in large part to the depth of its characters. While the story of one adorable clownfish’s dangerous trek through the wild and his father’s persistent quest to recover him at any cost resonates on a human level, the diverse and well-sketched personalities of the surrounding cast are part of what brings the story to such vibrant life. From a trio of vegetarian sharks to a grumpy porcupine fish, Pixar’s story introduces a whole new generation to a variety of underwater species, and both play with and against our popular understanding of many aquatic creatures.

The sense that these animals interact with one another in a recognizable society breathes life into a simple story, but how much did Pixar get right? Here’s the real story behind five of the most important and unique fish species to star in Finding Nemo.
#1 Nemo and Marlin - Clownfish

ARTIST'S CORNER: From the Met, One Good Biker
I'm not sure if this is an artist's corner, scientist's corner or a biker's corner. Marco is a master cyclist. He prefers steel bikes. He loves touring the boroughs at break neck speeds early in the mornings before he hits the dungeons of the Met where he uses his background in chemical engineering analyzing works of art.
Marco Leona

David H. Koch Scientist in Charge
Marco Leona studied in Italy where he obtained a laurea in chimica (MSc, Chemistry) and a PhD in crystallography and mineralogy from the Universita' degli Studi di Pavia. Prior to joining The Met, Dr. Leona worked at the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., and at the Los Angeles County Museum Art (LACMA). Dr. Leona pioneered the use of Surface Enhanced Raman spectroscopy to investigate natural and synthetic dyes in works of art. Besides his work at the Museum, he teaches analytical chemistry at the Conservation Center of New York University's Institute of Fine Art.
Recently Marco analyzed the printing techniques and use of Prussian blue, a newly available color at that time, in the famous Hokusai print The Great Wave.
