MEMORIES: Back in the day....

The Kasser Family

A family throw back to a time when many of us Flockers began our friendship. Why did they begin, because we had kids in preschools and latter in regular schools together.

This is Beth and as you know, I don't usually put much out on any press that I get, but I like this one and I also like this rather old family picture. For those of you that are in London and other spots in Europe. Perhaps you'll remember us from that time. Because this was from when we were all hopping around for Christmas. So, I thought I'd throw this old picture in. with a current article from Tucson Lifestyle Magazine on Mike an I.

BACK TO NATURE: Springtime in the Soutthwest

photo: David Cook on Unsplash

I'd like to talk about reptiles and amphibians, because it's the season when all of the creepy crawlers are coming out. The Salamanders and even the Gila Monsters. And old Gila Monsters can be quite cagey and dangerous, and maybe you didn't know this but a Gila Monster in the first 50 feet can outrun a race horse. So be careful because they can turn on you; And, you may end up in the Emergency Room with his jaw being opened by a pair of Emergency Room pliers. So that's why I've decided to put him first because he's beginning to come out.

While Salamnders and lizards look similar, they are not related.Salamanders are Amphibians, Lizards are Reptiles.

Leaping Lizards: Quirky Facts About Those Resident Reptiles

UA researcher John Wiens talks about lizards' trick tails, their propensity for pushups and more.

From: The University of Arizona News, By: Alexis Blue, August 1, 2016

You hear them scurrying in the underbrush. You see them running up trees. Maybe you've even spotted one in your shower, or stuck to your kitchen window.

If you live in Tucson, you're accustomed to seeing lizards. But how much do you really know about them?

A SHARE FROM THE FLOCK: Even the snakes know it's spring.

Just this morning on the Tennis court there was one of our most coveted Flockers and also the mother to Jaxon, the featured pup from last week who was helping us celebrate St. Patrick's Day with his own doggy opera singing. Believe it or not, Lisa was walking along the Rillito River path, and she took the above photo that speaks for itself. Thank you for sharing Lisa.

Once you come to Tucson, if you are into the sciences and into the planets, last week we visited The Flandrau Science Center and I'd like to revisit them to let you know they're not just a  one day trip, they have films, journeys into outer space, and. The other place I'd like to encourage you to visit the stars. is to go up on Mt. Lemmon to the Sky Center at the Steward Observatory and kindly arrange a special field trip with The University of Arizona.

WELLNESS: Wellness & Wellbeing

What is wellness? It' a state of mind, it's a state of movement, it's an integrated type of mindset

What is Wellness?

From: Global Wellness Institue

Wellness is a modern word with ancient roots. The key tenets of wellness as both preventive and holistic can be traced back to ancient civilizations from the East (India, China) to the West (Greece, Rome). In 19th-century Europe and the United States, a variety of intellectual, religious and medical movements developed in parallel with conventional medicine.

Does Sugar encourage inflamation? The answer to that is yes. The jury is not out on that one. One of the things I'd like to prsent below is a list of the top anti-inflamitory foods.

Foods that fight Inflamation

From: Harvard Health Publishing, November 16, 2021

Doctors are learning that one of the best ways to reduce inflammation lies not in the medicine cabinet, but in the refrigerator. By following an anti-inflammatory diet you can fight off inflammation for good.

PET'S CORNER: Hazel is our first ever featured feline!

Hazel

This week’s featured pet is Hazel! She is a 6 month old tortoiseshell kitten and was adopted from the Hermitage Cat Shelter. She enjoys birdwatching, playing with her squeaky mouse toy, and pouncing on her sister. Fun fact: Tortoiseshell cats (torties) are almost exclusively female! They have a bit of a reputation for having sassy personalities- also known as tortitude!
