Well, it's a winter wonderland throughout the United States. If you enjoy ice skating, sledding, ice climbing, snowshoeing, downhill skiing, or cross country skiing this is your time to enjoy. If you're not into the snow, there's always the Islands if you can find a flight.
Skiing in The Rocky Mountains
Colorado’s Rocky Mountains are a national treasure. Rugged and scenic beyond imagination, they make up the highest mountain range in the lower 48, with peaks reaching far above 14,000 feet. However, most lift-accessed skiing maxes out 10,000 to 11,000 feet, except for Breckenridge’s Express Superchair, which ascends to 12,840 feet.
Ski Valley is the southernmost ski destination in the continental United States. The top elevation of Ski Valley is 9,157 feet (2,791 m) above sea level and has 200 skiable acres with 21 runs.

Winter Sports: Sledding, Skiing, Snowboarding, Skating
|
Winter sports are lots of fun — just ask any kid who's just scored the winning goal during an ice-hockey game or finished sledding to the bottom of a giant hill.
But when you're sitting on that sled, getting ready to ski, or doing a figure-eight on the pond in your skates, you have to know how to be safe. Otherwise, you could get injured and be stuck inside while everyone else is enjoying the snow.

35 Best New Year Traditions to Bring You All the Luck
We could all use some good fortune in 2023.
| |
Every country has its own ways to bring good luck while ringing in the coming year. Many groups start the year off with good luck foods: beans, round foods and noodles are often high on the list, as well as some tasty desserts. Other cultures put great stock in what you wear, letting your wardrobe usher in good health, money or love. Then again, where you are (or what you're listening to) when the clock strikes midnight could carry more importance than what you're wearing. Seriously, there are plenty of traditions you can follow to go into 2023 with a fresh start.

You know that I was recently diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Even though I have no symptoms the blood work says I have it. As part of my treatment the doctors have advised me to take probiotics which have benefits far beyond helping with my Lyme Disease.
Probiotics are made of good live bacteria and/or yeasts that naturally live in your body. You constantly have both good and bad bacteria in your body. When you get an infection, there’s more bad bacteria, knocking your system out of balance. Good bacteria helps eliminate extra bad bacteria, returning the balance. Probiotic-supplements are a way to add good bacteria to your body.
|
Do you need probiotics? It depends.
Dietitian explains the benefits and when to speak to your doctor

You’ve seen the supplements and heard the hype — promises ranging from easy weight loss to a stronger immune system. But do you really need probiotics? And, what’s the best way to get them?
With constantly changing information available from so many sources, deciding whether or not you need probiotics can be confusing. So, we went to Emily Lybbert, a registered dietitian at CoreLife Novant Health - Ardmore in Winston-Salem.

Perhaps this was Kimmi giving us a nod and saying I'm OK.
Last week was a very special week. It was a week of remembering Kimmi Allen. Her family sponsored Ballet Tucson's performance of The Nutcracker and the Tucson Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas Concert in her honor.
|
Kimmi was a dear friend, perhaps a spirit guide. I met her on accident at the Mount Lemmon Country Store looking for a hiking trail that Reed might enjoy on his birthday. Her life was not always easy, but she was a wonderful young woman with a huge heart. She had a soft spot in her heart for her young son Reed and her loving family.
She walked with a philanthropic heart for those suffering from accidents of birth or from circumstances in life that cannot be controlled. She did much to engender kindness through TROT (Therapeutic Riding of Tucson) and Save the Cord Foundation.

PET'S CORNER: Little Davie
A family of nine came to pick up little Davie, but he didn't want to go. It was too many people at once. If anyone wants a sweet angel, I feel this is a great chance. His breeder is not able to keep little Davie. I'd take him in a heart beat, but I already have six. He has great genes. He's kennel trained, sleeps all night in his kennel, is house trained, and he's still available.
COMING SOON: More on India
As you know, last month we did a deep dive into Indian culture and many of the religions of India. We haven't tapped into Christianity and Islam in India yet. They represent a smaller percentage of the population than Hinduism, but a larger population than Buddhism, Jainism, or Sikhism and we do not want to leave them out. We plan to revisit them in the new year and also plan to revisit Indian fashion as well with our dear friends Dr. Gulshan and Neelam Sethi. She's promised to let us take a deep dive into her treasure chest of vintage saris and as for Gulshan, I'm not sure if his neru jackets are vintage, but he looks awfully good in them and hopefully he'll sport a few and we'll get to show you them in a mid-January issue of the Flock.
