Don't miss the moon eclipse Mars next week on Monday (Jan. 30)

From: Space.com, By: Joe Rao, January 23, 2023

During this lunar occultation, Mars will appear to vanish behind the moon's dark limb.

Come Monday night (Jan. 30), the central and northern United States and southern Canada will be able to watch as a waxing gibbous moon will slide closely below the planet Mars. But across parts of southern California, the Southern Rockies and the Southwest Desert, as well as much of Texas and Oklahoma and down into the Deep South including Southern Georgia and Florida, the moon will cross in front of Mars, causing an occultation or eclipse of the planet. It can also be seen throughout all of Mexico, Cuba and much of Central America.

Asteroid set to pass earth tonight in one of closest encounters ever

From: Metro, By: Emma Brazell, January 26, 2023

An asteroid the size of a bus is set to make one of the closest approaches ever recorded tonight. The space rock will zoom over the southern tip of South America just after midnight (GMT). Set to come in at only 2,200 miles (3,600 kilometers) above the planet’s surface, experts have noted that it’s a close shave. It’s predicted to be the fourth closest to pass by Earth since records began.

See The ‘Green Comet’ Close To The Big Dipper After Sunset This Weekend

From: Forbes, By: Jamie Carter, January 24, 2023

By now you will have heard of the “green comet”—comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF), the first relatively bright comet since 202o’s comet NEOWISE. But have you seen it yet? It takes some doing. Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) this week becomes relatively easy to find—but only using binoculars unless, you’re under incredibly dark skies—thanks to its apparent passing in the northern hemisphere’s night sky of the Big Dipper.

WELLNESS: Safe Pain Killers with Blood Thinners

Pain Pills

A lot of us out there are on blood thinners. If you are on a blood thinner you should avoid taking certain over the counter pain killers like aspirin and ibuprofen, or products containing aspirin such as Alka-Seltzer and Excedrin. Many doctors recommend taking Tylenol for pain if you are on a blood thinner. Before taking anything, please and always check with your healthcare provider just to make sure what is right for you.

Is Tylenol (Acetaminophen) a Blood Thinner?

From: Healthline, By: Rachel Nall, MSN, CRNA, February 21, 2019

Tylenol is an over-the-counter (OTC) pain reliever and fever reducer that’s a brand name for acetaminophen. This medication is commonly used alongside other pain relievers, such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium.

While some people take aspirin because of its mild blood-thinning effects, Tylenol isn’t a blood thinner. However, there are still some important things to know about Tylenol and how it works when deciding between using it and other pain relievers, including blood thinners.

HOLIDAYS: Valentine's Day

Valentines

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. It's celebrated on the same day, February 14, across the world. Here's a little teaser to get you thinking.

6 Valentine's Day Traditions Around the World

Across the United States and around the world, February 14 marks a day of celebration of St. Valentine.

From: WorldStrides

The legend of St. Valentine is shrouded in mystery. The Catholic Church recognizes at least three saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend says Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided single men made better soldiers than those with families, he outlawed marriage. Valentine continued to perform marriages in secret, causing Claudius to order he be put to death. Other stories suggest Valentine was killed for attempting to help Christians escape Roman prisons.
