The Floor: Friend or Foe?

First things first: How to get up from the floor (or ground)

Worst-case scenario—after a fall

1. It’s not so different from getting out of bed!

  • We tend to overthink the process, but getting up from the floor can be as straightforward as getting out of bed—just in reverse.
  • Take a look at this quick video on how to get out of bed safely: Watch Video
  • Sometimes it’s almost as easy as falling out of bed—just safer!

2. Crawling: Back to Basics

When you're on the floor, the first goal is to get to your hands and knees.

It might feel unfamiliar, but your body remembers how to do this. Here's how:

  • Roll onto your side.
  • Lift your shoulders: this is like Step 7 in most “getting up” diagrams.
  • Then lift your hips: similar to Step 5.
  • And just like that, you’re on all fours and ready to crawl!

3. You’re Up (Almost)!

Once you’re on your hands and knees, you have choices:

  • Crawl to a sturdy chair or low table.
  • Use it to gradually raise yourself to a sitting, then standing position.
  • Or practice getting back down again—yes, this is a fantastic exercise in itself!

1) What are 3 words that describe you?

Adaptable, Resilient, and Passionate

2) How long have you been with DayBreak Adult Care, and what brought you here?

I’ve been with DayBreak for a year now. I was looking for my next professional opportunity after my previous job in tech had abruptly come to an end. I was told about an opening at Daybreak for a case manager was open and I decided to apply. Although I didn’t have direct experience in case management, I knew that I could apply my previous background in non-profit work and my personal experience as a long-term caregiver for my grandmother as enough lived experience to still be an asset to the already amazing team here.

3) What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy the instant gratification that we have as case managers when we see instant results in our clients’ lives from the help and interventions that we offer as a company. There’s nothing better than meeting a new client and being able to close their case knowing that their lives have drastically improved directly because of the work you’ve done.

4) What do you enjoy doing outside of work? Any hobbies or interests?

I love spending time with family and friends, fishing, cooking, playing games/sports,  traveling abroad, and working on a couple of personal projects that will be released to the public soon. My degree and professional background is in business and marketing, so I have a couple of businesses that I am working on right now.

Thank you, De'Andre! Your dedication, compassion, and positive energy truly shine in everything you do. We’re grateful to have you as part of the team.
