Prayer Requests
Called to Glory

Dr. Floyd Frank Behrens (Teacher Emeritus) entered his heavenly rest on June 15. Dr. Behrens served as the school administrator at Grace Lutheran School in Winter Haven, FL, from 1988–1998. After retirement, he remained active at Grace, Winter Haven, as well as the planning committee for the FLGA District Veterans of the Cross annual retreat.

Dr. Behrens was preceded in death by his wife, Jan. Please keep his son, family, and friends in your prayers during their time of mourning. Read more here about his life and memorial service.


Prayers

Voting for the LCMS Synod President was open from June 17– 20. The Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison is the president-elect of the LCMS for a fifth term of office. May the Lord richly endue him with strength for continued service and make him a blessing to the Synod and to the Church.

The 40th Biennial LWML Convention is taking place June 22–25 in Milwaukee, Wi. Please pray for all attendees and organizers as they travel and participate in this conference. May the Word of God work in them and through them as they celebrate the Lord of the nations.

Rev. Robert Steinke (Emeritus) is recovering from a fall. He was hospitalized, released, and will continue to be monitored and treated. Please pray for his healing.

Roy Heflin (DCE Emeritus) is in kidney failure. Please pray for the Lord's provision and healing.

Rev. Bob Scudieri (Emeritus) broke his elbow in a bike accident. He is now home recovering from surgery. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Joyce Adams (Emeritus Teacher) continues her recovery from mantle cell cancer. Please pray for healing and peace.

Mary Kolb, the wife of Rev. Peter Kolb (Emeritus), had successful knee replacement surgery on June 6. Please pray for continued healing and a complete recovery.

Rev. John Hopkins (former pastor in FLGA District) has been diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a terminal condition. Please pray boldly for healing according to the Lord's plan.

Rev. Bob Besalski (Emeritus) has battled pancreatic cancer for over two years. After successful treatments and surgery, the cancer returned. At this time, treatment will be discontinued. Please pray for the Lord's peace as Bob commends himself to the care of the Lord.

Doris Quince, the mother of Rev. Bert Matlock (Trinity, Crawfordville, FL), is in hospice care for an infection in her hip. Please pray for healing and peaceful care.

Please pray for Rev. Chris Patterson (Concordia, Miami, FL) as he continues his recovery at home.

Calling all Early-Risers!

On Friday, September 29, at 6:30 am, President's Equip Conference attendees are invited to interact and network with fellow Along-siders. Talk the Walk will be a time for easy-going physical fitness and an opportunity to share ministry hearts with other pastors, educators, and laity.

This event will begin with 15 minutes of warm-up stretches, then walking alongside and engaging others with ministry ideas, encouragement, and networking. No registration is required for this event. The first 250 participants will receive a commemorative "cooling towel" to keep (and maybe need) for their walk around the hotel property.
Help is Needed for "Talk the Walk"

The President's Equip Conference planning committee is searching for a pastor, educator, or lay leader willing and able to lead the Talk the Walk group through a 15-minute series of warm-up stretches before the Health & Wellness event.

The need is for a strong voice, energetic personality, and encourage excitement to prepare and loosen up the large group for exercise, engagement, and enjoyment. Please contact Rev. Dave Wesche if you are interested or want more information.

Middle School Youth at Luther Springs

60 Middle School Youth from the Florida-Georgia District spent the week at Luther Springs for Servant Event Camp! The campers and their adult leaders rotated between onsite service projects and projects in nearby Gainesville, FL, where they sorted clothing and food donations at various Christian charities.
Transformation Tuesday: On Break for the Summer

Transformation Tuesday is taking a summer break. The conversation will resume on August 22. Transformation Tuesdays are a one-hour Zoom call for some great discussion on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 11 am.

The 2023 LCMS Regular Convention

Forty-three representatives from the Florida-Georgia District will attend the 68th LCMS Convention in Milwaukee, WI, July 29 – August 3, under the theme, "We Preach Christ Crucified." FLGA attendees include Voting Ordained and Lay, along with Advisory Delegates, members of the FLGA Board of Directors, and staff. While in Milwaukee, the delegates will worship together and attend to the business of the Convention by voting and responding to the various Resolutions placed before the assembly. The delegates will also vote for Regional Vice-Presidents, the LCMS Board of Directors, and other Boards such as the National and International Mission and the Concordia University System.

The FLGA District representatives will gather daily for discussion and hear from various leaders of ministry partners. Please pray for your FLGA District representatives and the whole assembly as they prepare, travel, and use their vote and voice to guide the direction of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
Reaching out to Missionaries

The Florida-Georgia District is a mission partner with the LCMS church planting mission work in Puerto Rico. The FORO (forum) is a gathering in the mission field to learn about the work and see what God is doing through the mission teams. There will be some “show and tell” time, fellowship, brainstorming, and active support for the missionaries and local people.

Rev. Peter Meier, FLGA Executive Director of Mission & Outreach, will attend the FORO October 6-9, 2023, in Puerto Rico. Anyone individuals or mission teams have the opportunity to join him! This will be an opportunity to open the door for mission and ongoing relationships in Puerto Rico. More information will be shared on Transformation Tuesday, Sept 12.
