General Aviation Appreciation Month
Airport Manager John Ohrazda accepted a proclamation from Mayor Baird this week recognizing April as General Aviation Appreciation Month.
Joel Arrington
Assistant Airport Manager
What are your day-to-day job duties at the airport?
In addition to assisting the airport manager with the day-to-day operation of the airport, I supervise the line service, customer service and day-to-day operations at Hangar 1.
Why did you decide to work at the Lee's Summit Municipal Airport?

Before I worked for the airport, I was a part-time flight instructor for a company located on the field. When this position become available I applied and got the position. I left my job of 15 years to work in aviation full-time, which is where I really wanted to be all along.
What do you like most about your job?
Besides working with the aircraft, I enjoy working outside. I enjoy the variety of people and issues we deal with daily.
Do you have a pilots license? If not, do you plan to get one?
Yes, I got my pilots license in 1993 and currently hold a Commercial Pilot rating and I am a Certified Flight Instructor.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I am fortunate enough that my professional career and favorite pastime activities are the same thing. Generally, when I am not working in my official capacity, I am at the airport teaching people how to fly and conducting FAA flight reviews for local pilots.
