Airport Operations Update
The Lee’s Summit Municipal (LXT) Airport has seen a sharp increase in operations since early June. A portion of this increase is due to construction season and the long-term runway closures at several airports in the area. The Warrensburg (RCM) and Johnson County Executive (OJC) airports have runways under reconstruction. Both projects are similar to what we experienced at the Lee’s Summit Airport during 2017. Construction is expected to be complete at both airport runways late in the fall, weather permitting.
Several other airports in the area have short-term projects that consist of joint seal replacement, seal coating or remarking runways. As a result, LXT is seeing an uptick in the number of aircraft operations consisting of the pickup and drop-off of passengers in the early morning and after hours.
The following construction activities will be taking place in August and September at the Lee's Summit Airport.
- A section of Taxiway Alpha will be closed for 10 days starting August 19 for concrete repairs to a section of the taxiway in front of the former terminal building.
- Runway 11/29 will be closed for approximately one week in September to perform small repairs to some areas on the runway.
- During several days in September, sections of Taxiway Alpha will be closed for short periods of time during the day to remark the taxiway.
