FOCUS OF THE MONTH

Opioid Overdose Prevention

Opioid overdose continues to be a major public health challenge throughout the United States during the winter months. HUD is committed to helping increase consumer access to safe FDA-approved harm reduction products in its affordable housing

When administered in time, naloxone saves lives by reversing the effects of opioid overdose caused by substances such as heroin, fentanyl, and prescription opioid medications. Similar to how an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) can reverse cardiac arrest, or how an EpiPen can reverse the effects of some allergic reactions, naloxone serves as a valuable tool and extra layer of protection by rapidly reversing symptoms resulting from opioid overdose.

ICMS Snapshot Updates

The Staying in DHS Interim Housing? data point has been updated. Previously, it would indicate a "Yes" if at the time the ICMS Snapshot was generated, the ICMS participant was actively checked in to a DHS interim housing project. And if that data point was blank, it was an indicator the ICMS participant was not actively checked in to a DHS interim housing project.

With the new update, a blank still cell indicates the participant is not actively checked in to a DHS interim housing project. However, now when a participant is actively checked in to a DHS interim housing project, instead of a "Yes," the ICMS Snapshot displays the name of the interim housing provider and the facility.
