In recognition of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, we want to reaffirm the importance of mental health support as a critical component of long-term housing stability and overall well-being.
ICMS plays an essential role in helping participants navigate complex systems of care, connect to services, and access the support they need.
As such, we are revisiting and highlighting the Mental Health Care Navigation Tip Sheet and Landing Page, resources developed for ICMS that include guidance, tools, and best practices designed to support engagement, referrals, and coordination of care. The Tip Sheet is a brief ICMS guide for recognizing and responding to participant mental health needs.
The first page explains mental health as a continuum, from thriving to crisis, with examples of behaviors or warning signs at each level. It also defines key terms like mental health decompensation, serious mental illness, and recovery.
The second page outlines support options, referral pathways, crisis response steps, and safety tips. It covers services like therapy, medication support, peer support, HSSP, DMH referrals, 988, 911, and the LA County 24/7 Help Line. We hope these resources continue to serve as practical and meaningful support for the work you do every day. And as always, we look forward to your feedback!
