From The Helm

With October settling in, this marks my one-year anniversary at Irish Boat Shop. My family and I want to thank everyone associated with the Boat Shop and the folks of Northern Michigan for being so welcoming.

While summer may have come to a close and we wait for the fall colors to arrive, the boating season still continues. The cooler air and calm waters make for some peaceful times on the water. Whether it's an early morning cruise or a quiet afternoon, there’s something special about boating in the fall.

This past summer was one for the books, and I’m grateful to each of you for making it a success. The memories we’ve created together remind us of the joy that comes from being on the water with family and friends. As we move into this new season, I encourage everyone to continue enjoying these opportunities to connect with each other.

Thank you for your continued trust and support. Here's to enjoying the beautiful fall boating season and all the moments still to come.

Sincerely,

Shae B. Cross

President

Service Update

As the boating season winds down in Northern Michigan, our service crew has hit full stride with haul-outs. We are hard at work making sure every boat is handled with care as it comes out of the water for the season. We conduct detailed inspections as we prepare boats for winterization and take pride in providing our customers with the highest level of service. Whether you’re preparing for winter storage or planning your boat’s off-season maintenance, you can rest assured that your vessel is in expert hands here at Irish Boat Shop.

Events Update

Our summer photo contest wrapped up on Labor Day, and after careful consideration, our judging panel selected the top five photos. We then turned to our Facebook community for final voting. A big congratulations to Mike for taking the top spot with the winning photo! Thank you to everyone who participated, and we can’t wait to see your incredible submissions again next year!

Meet The Crew

Meet Colin, our General Manager in Traverse City! As the grandson of our late founder, Dave Irish, Colin continues the family tradition of passion for boating. His expertise and leadership have been instrumental in allowing Irish Boat Shop to thrive in Traverse City. Next time you’re in the area, be sure to say hello to him. He’s always happy to share his knowledge to help make your boating experience the best it can be. Thanks for all of your hard work Colin!

Harbor Springs Happenings

In Harbor Springs, we had the pleasure of hosting key parts of the Harbor Springs Festival of the Book at Irish Boat Shop. As one of Northern Michigan’s premier literary events, the festival brought together authors, readers, and book enthusiasts for a weekend of inspiration and conversation.

This year, we proudly welcomed guests for registration, the festival bookstore, and for an author book signing. Our crew was happy to be part of the festival, and the atmosphere at the shop was buzzing with excitement as authors and attendees prepared for the weekend’s events. The festival not only celebrates the power of the written word but also the strong culture of our community.

Charlevoix Shenanigans

Continuous training is essential to maintaining efficiency and safety in our boatyard. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to allow our seasoned technicians to pass on their knowledge and expertise to our younger technicians. Seated in the crane is Eli, he is one of our technicians who is learning to operate the crane in Charlevoix. Developing new skills like this helps to make sure that our crew is always prepared to meet the demands of the job with precision and confidence.

Traverse City Tidbits

We're excited to share that our Traverse City location has recently acquired a new air compressor. This equipment will enhance our ability to blow out water systems and power air tools efficiently. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to invest in the facility and provide the best service possible to our customers. Stay tuned as we continue to make improvements that help us maintain our high standards of service.

As we bring this October edition of the Foghorn to a close, we find ourselves in a season of change. One where Northern Michigan’s waters take on a crisp and tranquil beauty.

Whether you're still out enjoying the last of the boating days or starting to prepare for the winter ahead, we want to thank you for being part of this amazing boating community. From all of us at Irish Boat Shop, we wish you a warm and wonderful October!
