Friends,

The opening weeks of our academic year have gone by so quickly. Already our students are immersed in their classes and co-curriculars, deep into their athletic seasons, and well-practiced for upcoming artistic performances.

Though some of the raw excitement from the first days of school may fade like the leaves outside our windows, the passion of our students, faculty, and staff continues to grow throughout the year. We are called, as always, to pursue the magis - the more - in all that we do. And this Ignatian Year, in a unique way, we are called to see all things new in Christ.

On Monday, we celebrated Indigenous Peoples' Day for the first time as a federal holiday, recognizing the rich tradition we owe America's native peoples - particularly in this part our of country. And, locally, we also celebrated a deeply meaningful event, the Boston Marathon, in a new way and new season. Our own Mr. Eric Mendoza of the Social Studies Department finished an incredible 160th place with a time of 2:35:04!

On Tuesday's professional development day for faculty and staff, we asked departments to channel the Ignatian Year and see their work in a new light. The results were amazing! The Science Department partnered with Trustee Stephen Fulton '83, P'25, '26 and Catholic Charities of Greater Boston for a morning of service at the Yawkey Konbit Kreyol Food Pantry and Haitian Multi-Service Center in Dorchester. The Classics Department spent the day visiting other schools researching a new textbook for their curriculum that will incorporate new and diverse voices. Several other departments including English, Math, and Social Studies also reflected on their culturally responsive teaching practices and opportunities to reinvigorate their subjects. And later in the evening, we welcomed more than 200 new parents and guardians on campus to celebrate the beginning of their journey as BC High families.

Today, we hosted the Freshmen Olympics, uplifting our newest Eagles and binding them together with fun and companionship. In all of these exciting new opportunities we see the foundation for our year, one filled with promise and potential. We look forward to all of the experiences it will bring to BC High for our families, alumni, and more!

BC High Parents' Association Hosts New Parent Night
With the new school year underway, the BC High Parents’ Association (BCHPA) hosted hundreds of new parents and guardians in our community for an evening of good food and cultivating new friendships, as well as the chance to take a tour around our school’s campus.

The newly-formed BCHPA is already bringing palpable energy to our parent/guardian community - and we look forward to more events in the future. To stay connected, join the official BC High Parent Facebook Page.

Stay tuned for more photos from the evening!
Shields Center for Innovation Panel with Carly Fiorina
A few weeks ago, I was thrilled to participate in an online discussion with former Chairman and CEO of Hewlett Packard, and the first woman to lead a Fortune 50 Company, Carly Fiorina. Under her leadership at HP, innovation tripled, and the company became the 11th largest business in the United States.

This was a phenomenal opportunity for our community to engage with one of the country's leading innovators, and we are grateful to Trustee Jack Shields ’79, P’06 and the Shields Center for Innovation for hosting it!
Alumni Leaders Back on Campus
Since the start of school, we have been fortunate to welcome Trustee Brian Lee '02 and Mike White '70 back to campus to share their knowledge and experiences with our Eagles!

Brian joined the Asian American Pacific Islander Collective (AAPIC) and other student groups on campus for dumplings and conversation. He spoke of following his passions into his career as an animator for movies, shows and other media in addition to his proud heritage and identity.

Mike White '70 joined the cohort of students involved in the Michael D. White '70 Center for Emerging Leaders to share some of his reflections on leadership in business and life. It was a powerful day for students who seek to follow in his, and so many other of our distinguished graduates' examples, as heroic Ignatian Leaders.

An Incredible Alumni Homecoming & Family Weekend
Thank you to all who attended Alumni Homecoming & Family Weekend. In a special show of camaraderie, we hosted fellow Jesuit schools Fordham Prep and Canisius High School for two hard-fought games in front of an incredible home crowd. In that crowd were many alumni from our Grand Reunion classes of 1975, 1976, 1980, 1981, 1985, 1986, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2015, and 2016. We also had the opportunity to honor our 1981 basketball team on the field at halftime. Jack Deneen ’55 served as Honorary Captain for the coin toss!

In total, we welcomed nearly 1,500 alumni, parents, friends, and students to campus for an amazing time. For more photos, visit this link.
