RODIN AND HART
You may recall that Rodin's
The Kiss
and
The Thinker
were two of the more than 200 pieces that came from his
The Gates of Hell –
the defining project of his career.
Some of his most famous works, like
The Thinker
,
The Three Shades
, or
The Kiss
, were originally conceived as part of
The Gates
and were only later enlarged and cast as independent pieces capturing in the millions at auction.
Frederick Hart's figures that grace the National Cathedral are offered here and are the only castings from this important 20th century commission. Both Rodin and Hart have Centers established to research and display their creations.
In addition to this collection we have an
Ex Nihilo
working model in cast marble and
Christ Rising
in bronze priced to sell.
.
The collectors are motivated. The works have been moved to storage and are ready to ship. All offers are entertained.
Most works will sell for more than half off their gallery prices. You may call 415.686.4681 or email

EX NIHILO
The Artist says: "I saw
Ex Nihilo
(Out of Nothingness) as a single expression of creation, as the metamorphosis of divine spirit and energy. The figures emerge from the nothingness of chaos, caught in the moment of eternal transformation; the majesty and mystery of divine force in a state of becoming.
Completed in 1982, Hart’s depiction of the birth of mankind is considered one of the most important commissions in the 20th century. The tympanum above the central door features half-formed figures of men and women emerging from the void. Beneath stands the figure of Adam, his eyes not yet open and his body not fully freed from the surrounding stone. The north tympanum depicts the
Creation of Day
, and the south tympanum depicts the
Creation of Night
.
The sculpture of
St. Peter
, by Frederick Hart, anchors the North Tower and depicts one of the Cathedral’s two patron saints with his eyes lifted to the horizon and an empty fisherman’s net over his shoulder.
The sculpture of
St. Paul
, by Frederick Hart, anchors the South Tower and depicts the first century apostle at the moment of his conversion on the road to Damascus, temporarily struck blind.
