Effective Monday, July 27, all Freedom 1st lobbies are suspending in-person transactions.

All services will again be provided in the drive-thru or by appointment only in the lobby. Our leadership feels that closing the lobbies is the best way to assist with the statewide mandate, allow us to continue social distancing best practices, and keep you safe.

We look forward to continuing to serve you in this capacity and will notify you when the policy changes. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding.
Did you know that, according to the Federal Trade Commission, more people have lost money to romance scams in the last two years than any other fraud reported to the FTC? In 2019 alone, that number was $201 million in reported losses.

What are “Romance Scams?”
Romance scammers hang out on social media websites and dating apps with fake profiles. They find someone with whom to strike up a virtual relationship, and then eventually progress to asking for money. There are several things you can look for if you believe you may be involved in a romance scam:

  • Your partner is not located in the United States, either for travel, work, or permanently.
  • Your partner quickly asks for money shortly after your relationship begins. This is often through a story that pulls on your heartstrings, such as:
  • Buying a plane ticket to see you or family
  • Paying for surgery or a medical expense
  • Paying for customs fees in order to retrieve something
  • Paying off gambling debts
  • Paying for a visa or official travel documents so they can see you
  • Your partner asks you to send money via wire or gift card.
  • Your partner makes a large deposit into your account in order to front the money for the request they’ve made. By doing this, they gain access to your bank account information and take the money they deposited and then some.

These scams may sound far-fetched, but they’re extremely common and have been experienced by our credit union membership in the past. To learn more about romance scams, please visit this helpful page provided by the FTC.

News travels fast! Many of our members have reported hearing that the credit union purchased the old Brookville Library. This is true…we’re excited to be bringing our community an additional branch experience in the not-too-distant future. Please note that there are no plans at this time to close any Freedom 1 st locations, only to expand. We look forward to providing you with more information on this exciting development soon.
