The Freedom of Truth

Boater Are Voters

Holiday Greetings Boaters,

While the calendar year meanders toward another twenty-first-century year, we are delighted to share news and information you can use. Special thanks to 5th District Supervisor Elect Foley’s office for the forwarded responses to boater questions. Answers to some of your questions, responded to by DPHP’s manager, Kelly Rinderknecht, must be read with an eye for the truth. As you read, you may discover additional questions and we encourage you to ask. There is an answer to every question. However, be advised, an answer may come from different sources.

The elimination of dock boxes embodies a major boater concern. Of the four boat fires recounted this year and 2021, we find no report or indication, that fires were caused by boats hitting dock boxes entering slips. Feel free to fact-check! Ask DPHP management about the reason a “cleaner look” serves boaters better than a dock box system. At Alamitos Bay Marina, reading between the lines, the City of Long Beach required Bellwether to install dock boxes as part of their refurbishment. To our understanding, storage facilities, located a substantial distance from the dock finger, feel like yet another fee for a diminished boater service.

Boaters appropriately ask questions concerning proposed fee increases because the services received are out of line with the services rendered. No one wants to pay more for less service.

Dana Point Harbor belongs to the County of Orange. Recreation and open access to the ocean is the right and privileges for all people to enjoy. You may have noticed dissatisfaction with current management runs rampant throughout the harbor. The lack of transparency by DPHP and diminished service for higher fees is only one reason for boaters' displeasure.

The current class action lawsuit seeks to correct the injustice of outrageous fees currently imposed on boaters by DPHP.  Slip rates increased from 26% to 95% without increased services and rates may rise even higher!

Your Dana Point Boaters Association advocates on behalf of boaters. Truth, transparency, and justice are the most important components of the platform upon which we stand. We are dedicated to serving boaters through open communication, advocacy, safety information, and keeping you informed about what’s going on in the harbor. We appreciate you and your generous support.

“The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.” Donate generously any amount in support of the legal fund. DPBA stands diligently prepared to completion of this legal action based on the merits of the case. We will keep you informed throughout the court proceedings. Also, remember to tell your boat neighbors about Dana Point Boaters Association.

Enjoy the days leading up to the new year. Decide to enter into the spirit of giving and watch what you receive. Want something new now?  Purchase nautical items from our flag and merchandise assortment.

Above all, keep asking questions and writing to us and the county supervisors. Your opinion matters and it is your right to ask questions and expect answers. Demand truth and dare DPHP to be transparent. Freedom resides inside truth.

You deserve the best!

Peace and happiness to you,
