30 Second Spot with Joe

PAB Provides for Members

A little over a year ago, as the world was coming out of the Covid-19 pandemic, the PAB Board formed a special committee: the Talent Acquisition Committee. Along with meetings and discussions with our state’s premier media communications college programs, the committee also decided to engage high school students to consider broadcast careers.

In its second year, our BroadcastNowPa program has eight high school broadcast programs (doubled from the first year total) working with member stations in a year-long competition. The PAB has produced broadcast career spots for social media and online to drive those seeking jobs in PA broadcasting to the local listings on the PAB Job Page, with outstanding results. And the Paid Broadcast Intern Program is now available and highlighted in this issue of The Frequency.

That's three solid programs in a year to assist broadcast member stations tap into new and existing potential pipelines of talent and staff. PAB at your service.

2024 Broadcasters’ Calendar & January 2024 Regulatory Dates

Below is the 2024 Broadcasters’ Regulatory Calendar from David Oxenford:

"This year, there is special emphasis on lowest unit charge periods. As you will see in the attached calendar, we include those dates not only in the relevant month, but also include attachments listing the dates by state and also chronologically. We have also highlighted many state and municipal elections – something that we have not done in the past. These days, as municipal and even school board elections are more frequently becoming political battlegrounds, we expect more political advertising for these races to be placed – particularly on stations that serve local communities.

As I wrote on my blog last week, lowest unit charge and most other FCC political rules apply to these races, stations need to be prepared to offer LUC and take care of other political obligations (including the political file) when they run advertising for these races. A link to an article discussing the calendar is here."

We also published a look ahead at regulatory dates in January 2024. See that article here.
