We hope everyone has had a fulling January. It's hard to believe we're coming on the end of the month, but it's also unbelievable how much we've done over these few short weeks of the new year!
We want to thank the Suncoast Chapter of Jack and Jill of America for choosing to kick off their MLK weekend with us at the farm, with over 40 individuals of all ages to help out. They also donated $1,000 to the program along with $500 worth of tools, a wheelbarrow, and gloves!

We're also incredibly excited for the progress being made towards our Fresh & Local Greenhouse Project in partnership with USF St. Petersburg Campus. The good folks from Aquasol International are working with us and have dug the holes for the footers. We passed inspection and next week we'll be getting ready to pour concrete and build out!

We followed that Saturday with our 2nd Annual MLK Day of Service on Monday honoring Dr. King. We had an amazing turn out despite the cold weather.
We shelled hundred of peas (left), harvested lots of cassava (yuca - below) and purple sweet potatoes, composted hundreds of gallons of food waste, weeded more beds to get ready for more planting for the Spring season, fed our worms (below), decorated and packaged hundreds of kindness bags for the houseless, and so much more.

We've also kicked off both Guest Chef and People of Influence series in our programming this year with Chef Antonio of Chef Antonio's Blazing Kitchen, as well as Kimani Flemming, recent grad from FAMU. Both shared with our Youth Ambassador their journey and gave of their time freely. We believe wholeheartedly in modeling and exposure when it comes to our young people. |

20+ lbs of pigeon peas harvest over one weekend

600 gal of food scraps composted in January to date
- New compost partner Berry Boss Acai
- Harvested purple sweet potatoes and cassava in December and January
- Donation of dozens of bell pepper seedlings from a community member
- Planted lots of hot peppers, cabbage, cauliflower, mixed salad greens, and broccoli in finished beds

Community Compost
We're launching our new compost program for all our volunteers, visitors, or anyone who wants to divert their food waste towards a good cause. Every last Saturday of the month anyone can drop off food scraps (what we accept is listed to the right). We'll also have drive up drop off at our 12th St entrance. Help us continue to build nutrient rich soil!

January Community Workday & Mural Reveal! |

We have another exciting reason to celebrate this month after an eventful MLK Day of Service. After the PSTA bus mural was done for SHINE mural festival last year, we decided to take it a step further and paint the wall facing the farm. Jabari Reeds (iBOMS) has been busy working to get this done for us thanks to the support of The Foundation for a Healthy St. Pete and Mike Jefferies and Rick Craft at St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation for making it possible!

Black History Community Workday Next Month! |
Join us on Feb 26th from 9am - 11am for our Black History Month Workday. This is a family friendly event where everyone of all ages is welcome to take part in cultivating and tending to the land.
There will be art, music and more as well as we celebrate the contributions of Black communities and individuals everywhere, but especially right here in South St. Pete!

The Tampa Bay Collard Green Festival Returns to St. Petersburg next month! |
And St. Pete Youth Farm will be there again on Feb 19th from 10am - 5pm. This will be our third year participating in this amazing all day festival, and we always have a lot of fun, especially seeing all of you!

The first day of Kwanzaa, Umoja, means “unity” in Swahili — so that’s what a community event for the holiday focused on during a Sunday celebration at the St. Pete Youth Farm.
