In an interview with the Dalai Lama, he talked about the importance of recognizing one quality that all the world's religions share as a common value β the virtue of compassion. This virtue is held up for imitation by all the major religious traditions: Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism. It helps us to view each other with respect and appreciation.
Today's Solemnity of All Saints invites us to think about all the holy men and women who have opened their lives to God's grace and have embodied compassion in the world over the centuries. From the early days of the Church, the names of the martyrs were mentioned during the Eucharist. Today we can remember all the holy ones who have touched our lives β men and women, family and friends, canonized and uncanonized saints over the centuries.
The last book of Sacred Scripture, Revelation, written at a time of persecution, offers us a symbolic vision of the end time when a multitude from every nation, race, people, and tongue will be gathered together. These are the ones who have been sealed as true servants of God and will sing an eternal song of salvation. We hope to be part of that jubilant chorus.
In the meantime, we are surrounded by this great cloud of witnesses who urge us on to complete our task β living as beloved children of God, living out the plan of the kingdom Jesus preached in the Beatitudes, and being a presence in the world of God's Holy Spirit.
Faith Formation Classes: Sundays Β· 10:10β11:10 AM Β· Cronin Center
Students & Teachers: Wear your saint costume to the 9:00 AM Mass, then to class, and then to the Trunk-or-Treat! Home study families are welcome to join us at 11:10 AM in costume.
Parents: While your child is in class, bring your car or a chair to the side lot alongside the Cronin Center and set up your spot to hand out candy. Trunk decorations and costumes don't need a religious theme β just keep it family-friendly (nothing political, gory, or too scary).
Not into dressing up? Bring a prop that relates to your saint β a rosary, a stuffed animal for St. Francis, or something that says "Patron Saint of ____." Kids should know at least one fact about their saint and can share it with their class: "Saint _____, pray for us." No report required!

Your support aids us in fulfilling God's mission of providing for those less fortunate. The SVDP volunteers wish to express their heartfelt gratitude for your incredible generosity.
