1. Board Hosting Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Event Jan. 9
The Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities is hosting a drive through event in honor of National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on Jan. 9. Staff will be handing out gifts to area law enforcement agencies in the form of a sensory tool kit. The event starts at 11 a.m. and goes through 1 p.m. Monday at the agency's South Toledo headquarters at 1154 Larc Lane. All area police and fire departments are encouraged to attend!
2. Super Saturday Dance Jan. 14
The first Super Saturday Dance and Bible Study of 2023 is scheduled for Jan. 14. The dance is on the Second Saturday of every month and is just for special needs individuals and their caregivers, who must be present.
Bible study starts at 6:15 p.m. followed by the dance with a light meal at 7 p.m.

3. Little Hands Sensory Group Dates Set
The YWCA Child Care Resource and Referral Presents Little Hands Sensory Group! Designed for families of children with developmental disabilities ages 2-5. At these meetings, families will have the opportunity to connect with each other and engage in fun activities related to sensory needs and play. January Project: Puzzle Sensory Bins; Dates: Jan. 23: 2 p.m. at Way Library (Conf. Room 1) and 5 p.m. at Toledo Main Library (Fred McDonald Room); Jan. 25: 10 a.m. at Toledo Main Library (Fed McDonald Room) and 2 p.m. at Mott Library (Community Room A). Questions? 4. iDance APAC Annual Showcase Feb. 5
With the theme of "Love Can Build a Bridge," iDance presents its annual showcase, open to the public, Sunday, Feb. 5 at the Maumee Indoor Theatre! General admission is $10 (via cash, check, or card) and includes popcorn and a small fountain drink. Reservations can be made in the office during studio class times or via email at iDance@bex.net. 5. Virtual Parent Advocacy Training series starts Jan. 10
This live virtual training program is designed for parent and professional teams to learn alongside one another and focus on skills that strengthen parents’ ability to advocate for their children in a variety of settings. Participants will enhance their leadership skills and be ready to take on new higher-level roles in the community. Presented by Dr. Mary Murray and Mrs. Lydia Robinson, this free series begins January 10 with an overview of the model and a kickoff of the program, to include discussion about respect and communication. 6. 2023 LCBDD Winter Pool League starts Jan. 12
The winter session for the 2023 LCBDD Pool League is from January 12 ¬– March 23, 2023. All league nights are Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miss Cue South on Reynolds Rd. The cost per week is $7.00; be sure to bring extra for snacks/drinks. If you are required to have staff supervision, staff must be on site. 7. Martin Luther King Jr. Day closure on Jan. 16
The Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be closed Jan. 16, 2023, in observance of Martin Luther King Day. On-call staff are available 24/7 on our Emergency/After Hours line at 419-380-5100.
8. DODD Category ONE Certification Course Delegated Nursing
The Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities is proud to offer a DODD Category ONE Certification Course Delegated Nursing free of charge to area Providers and their Direct Care staff. The 2-day trainings will be at our Larc Lane Training Center. To achieve certification, you must attend both days of the 2-day trainings. Click here to sign up. Questions? 9. Lucas County Board January meeting on Jan. 23
The Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities will hold its monthly Board meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 23 at its Larc Lane Training Center, 1155 Larc Lane (Entrance O) in Toledo. This public meeting is in-person only, and the public is welcome to attend.
10. 2023 Night to Shine registration now open
Night to Shine is an unforgettable prom-like experience for people with special needs ages 14 and over. This event affords guests with a beautiful evening full of fun and excitement, for free! The night includes hair and makeup stations, fancy shoeshines, corsages and boutonnieres, dancing to a live band and a delicious sit-down dinner. Please plan to join us for Night to Shine at Terra State Community College on February 10, 2023. Register to attend or volunteer here.
11. Discussion on Education for Parents of Children with DD
The Ohio Coalition for the Education of Children with Disabilities is collaborating with the Ohio Department of Education, Office for Exceptional Children to revise The Guide to Parents Rights. The group is looking for parent participation and invites any families of children with disabilities to participate in an open forum discussion to give feedback on the revisions to the parent notice. The forum will take place via Zoom 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 12. Click here to register.
