WARDEN’S CORNER – JUNE 2025
As we slide into summertime where “the livin’ is easy”, your vestry continues its diligent service. At the May vestry meeting, the new Vision and Mission Statement were adopted and there was discussion regarding the work that has been done in the camellia garden. The irrigation system will be the next step for that project. A special thank-you to Tony Brooks and his friends for their work!
Outdoor fans have been installed and plans for a new sunshade for the Gabard Building playground were also discussed, as was preschool teacher compensation. Jeri Lyn Flowers, Director of College Ministry gave a terrific recap of the school year.
While school may be out, we won’t slow down much here at Christ Church in June. Our Children’s Ministries Leader, Kylee Creasy has some fun event planned each month for the kids, beginning with Vacation Bible School June 2 – 5. Jeani Synyard will host an HEP (Happy Episcopal People) party on Friday, June 6 beginning at 6p. The Day of Pentecost is Sunday, June 8 – WEAR RED!!! The vestry will meet for its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 17 at 5:30p, and on Sunday, June 29, Caritas music will be played and sung at the 10am service.
As we embark on the next steps of our process of calling a new rector, while we are in “wait mode”, the vestry will be utilizing the time over the next several weeks to look at our campus with a critical eye and make notes that will be given to Mike Tanner, Junior Warden. We invite you to do the same. You may have noticed a new digital lock on the door going into the vesting room from the church offices. The is in order to secure the area while we are in church. The rector’s office has been freshened up and rearranged – thank you Stefani Carroll! Let’s continue to make our buildings and grounds reflect the beauty that is inside the hearts of this family that IS Christ Episcopal Church, Valdosta! It’s an exciting time! The most important thing each of us can do between now and the time when the next rector is called is PRAY! Pray for us and pray for whomever it is that God is calling to serve with us. Pray for the Holy Spirit to continue to guide this process. Just pray… because WE KNOW GOD LOVES IT WHEN WE PRAY!
Love and Peace –
Molly Stevenson and Mike Tanner

SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE!
Dear Christ Church Family,
The Rector Search Committee has completed and forwarded our church profile to The Diocese of Georgia.
The Committee is deeply grateful for those who participated and shared their thoughts in the Lenten Dinner Conversations. In the near future, our parish profile will be posted on our church website for your viewing.
Below is an overview of what will happen next.
Preparation phase: The Committee used the information acquired from the Lenten Dinner Conversations to develop our parish profile and job description.
Job posting: The Rector position will be posted on the nationwide Episcopal News Service and other appropriate outlets.
Response phase: All applications will come to us via the Diocese of Georgia. The applications are collected by the Diocese for a period of time, so that applicants have plenty of time for prayer, personal discernment, and discussions with their family. They can withdraw their application at any time during this phase.
Committee discernment phase: The Diocese will release the applications, and the Committee will carefully consider the applicants and create a list of those we want to interview.
Interviewing phase: Depending on the number of applications, the Committee will agree on an appropriate interviewing strategy.
Please remember that the Committee is proactively seeking out exceptional candidates. This is where everyone can help. If you know of a potential candidate the Committee should consider, you are invited and encouraged to share the candidate's name and background directly with a member of the Committee.
Warm regards,
The Search Committee
