Be sure to tell us which Gateway Community your image represents. Applications are open until August 18, 2023. Winners of the contest will be notified by early September and will receive 3 16-postcard sets and a framed photo of their winning submission.

Here are some hiking tips to stay safe on the trail this summer:

🍃 Plan your hike around the cooler parts of the day: morning or evening. Keep it short and sweet.

🍃 Check the weather forecast before you leave home.

🍃 Stay hydrated. Carry twice the amount of water you normally would. Consider using electrolytes.

🍃 Use sun protection - Wear a hat and sunscreen.

🍃 Protect yourself against insects like mosquitos, chiggers and ticks

🍃 Don't overdo it. Your body's limits may be different in the heat and humidity.
