THE FULCRUM
December 05, 2019 Edition
From the National Office
In 1999 I started teaching Theology at my alma mater, Sacred Hearts Academy in Honolulu. Leo Delgado was also in the Theology department with me, and that spring, I was asked to co-moderate the 2000 SHA LIFE Team. Having participated as a student in 1991, I did not even think twice before saying “yes.” Twenty years and three ministries later, I was on the team for Head to Heart, a formation program for employees in our schools and retreat centers, which took place in early November. Who was one of the participants from Saint Louis School? Leo Delgado.
LIFE and life have come full circle, and that circle has been filled by blessed encounters with amazing people, like Leo, and especially the Sr. Katherine Francis Miller, ss.cc. & Sr. Irene Barboza, ss.cc. who invited us into this ministry! I have learned much, and as plans continue to come together for the 2020 summer program, I am very excited for the students and moderators to experience what the team is creating.
That being said, registration for the 2020 summer program is NOW OPEN. We are moving up deadlines by a month, so if you are in a participating institution, please scroll down to the summer program section of this newsletter for more information. I will also be emailing school/parish administrators and moderators/coordinators.
I am thankful for all the prayers and support that have been sent our way as we continue this amazing journey to celebrate the 50 th Anniversary of Marianist LIFE.
Please know that I am praying for you and your communities this Advent.

Toni & Leo, November 2019

The Vianney LIFE Team have had great LIFE meetings since the start of the academic year. Nick Kheriaty, Vianney LIFE coordinator writes: “The site of the chapel full of guys singing praise and worship songs – standing, kneeling, singing – is really inspiring. That’s how our night ended tonight as Jeremy (Remiger) led them in song during adoration. It was powerful!”

When the Sacred Hearts Academy LIFErs returned from the 2019 summer program, they gathered with the 2018 LIFErs to share about their experiences.
On July 27, 4 Lifers including moderators Remi and myself, led Arts & Crafts activities for the Diocese’s “Sunlight SunBright” event for children and their moms at the Women’s Correctional Center in Kailua. It was a positive loving service experience for all!
At the opening of the school year liturgy on September 6, SHA welcomed the Saint Louis School Campus Ministry Team. Fr. Pat McDaid, SM presided.

LIFE moderator, Loraine Perez writes:
When we returned from California, we had a mini retreat with those on the team who were not able to participate in the summer program, and this helped to bond the entire Crusader LIFE Team.
Since then, we have been busy with several events. They have kept their #SoulOnFire by partnering with their little brothers, offering support at Mass, and coordinating a blood drive. Members of the LIFE team have also helped with various retreats on and off campus, and we hosted two MLCs. We have also been very fortunate to work closely with the Sacred Hearts Academy LIFE team, which attends our MLCs, and we support them in their events as well.
One of the most rewarding events was to work with the lower school to teach them the motions to "Soul on Fire," which was performed at our homecoming pep rally. They worked for several weeks to ensure their younger brothers were comfortable with the motions for the performance.
Support Marianist LIFE
LIFE Teams are blessed with the opportunity to participate in the summer program, and experience they bring back to their schools and parishes through community meetings and service. The summer program is the starting point for their ministry, which sometimes goes far beyond their high school years. The lasting effect of LIFE is amazing to see.
