Those words are truer now than ever for shift_ed. Tonight we will gather to unveil new partnerships that will transform this community -- from our students and graduates to the companies that will employ them and the communities that will thrive with their success.
We are so grateful to High Point University for presenting "An Evening with Henry Kravis." The highly regarded investor and philanthropist is also the national board chair for SEO which created SEO Scholars, a program shift_ed is piloting now in Guilford County. Dr. Nido Qubein will sit down with Kravis for a "fireside chat" about the connection between investments in education and economic prosperity. We will announce some transformational gifts to shift_ed and honor one of our founders and biggest supporters, former Guilford County Schools Superintendent Maurice "Mo" Green. I hope you will join me for this very special event.
Decision time is here for high school seniors. Some are graduating ready to begin a career. Others are enrolling in a trade school or certificate program, and still others will matriculate at college or university. If you know a senior continuing their education, encourage them to apply for a shift_ed scholarship. Our last-dollar tuition scholarships have no GPA requirement and no need to include a resume, essay or recommendation letters. It is the simplest application seniors will complete, and they have until July 1 to do it.
This week we will also learn about Guilford County Schools' plans for the future as Superintendent Dr. Whitney Oakley unveils the district's new strategic direction. shift_ed is proud to partner with GCS in accelerating outcomes for every student, and we look forward to supporting the new plan.
Before we turn the calendar again, graduations will have begun. I can't help but feel nostalgia creeping in as my youngest prepares to walk across the stage and begin his next chapter. He is ready. He has been well-prepared by his family, his schools and this community. His future awaits, and his and all his classmates' futures are tied to ours. Community success is indivisible from student success. When we invest in education, economic prosperity follows. I'm all in. Are you?
Boldly,
Wendy
