MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIAL COUNCIL RECAP

Program stakeholders and community partners gathered at the Foss Waterway Seaport last week to launch the Chamber's Manufacturing Industrial Council for the South Sound.

The launch party honored the rich history and economic impact of industry and maritime in the South Sound and the importance of having the Manufacturing Industrial Council dedicated to the community's interests.

PORT AND INDUSTRY AS ECONOMIC DRIVERS
The Port and Industry are some of South Sound's most important economic drivers, affecting business both directly and indirectly. Get the latest news on the port and tide flats area including the new Manufacturing Industrial Council, trade updates, and information on the sub area plan.

Speakers include Meredith Neal, Director of the Manufacturing Industrial Council for the South Sound and Michael Fowler, World Trade Center Tacoma Senior Trade Consultant -- more speakers to be announced later.

EXPANDING AEROSPACE IN THE SOUTH SOUND
The South Sound aerospace industry received a financial lift thanks to a $125,000 grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce.

The grant, which was awarded to the Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County, used funds from Governor Inslee’s economic development strategic reserve account.

THE IMPORTANCE OF AEROSPACE IN PIERCE COUNTY
Three decades ago, Pierce County wasn’t considered a part of the region’s aerospace sector, nor was the sector seen as more than an indirect influence on the local economy. Both those conditions have changed dramatically.

With significant contributors to the industry, such as Tool Gauge and AIM Aerospace, should the county now count on aerospace as a contributor to its economy?
