The Gall..... 4/16/25
Matthew 27:33-34 (KJV)
33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
Our LORD AND SAVIOR, JESUS CHRIST, while hanging/DYING on the Cross was offered “vinegar to drink, MINGLED WITH GALL: and when he had tasted thereof, HE WOULD NOT DRINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
HAPPY HOLY WEEK!!!!
THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD IS THAT JESUS CHRIST ROSE FROM THE DEAD!!!!!
All other tenets of our Christian faith pale in comparison to this ONE FACT-
JESUS CHRIST ROSE FROM THE DEAD!!!
Because of this ONE TRUTH we, also have THE PROMISE of eternal life!!!!!!
In celebration of HOLY WEEK, I have purposed to read all four accounts in the four Gospels of Jesus' crucifixion, death and burial, and rising from the dead.
As I read the above Story, I wondered what was the significance of this strange herb GALL, and why Jesus, having TASTED, refused to drink......????????
GALL-In the Bible, the word gall most often refers to a bitter-tasting substance made of a plant such as wormwood or myrrh. The most famous biblical use of the word gall is in reference to a drink given to Jesus on the cross. Matthew 27:34 says that, as Jesus was being crucified, the Roman soldiers offered “wine to drink, mixed with gall.” Mark 15:23 specifies that the bitterness in the wine was due to the presence of myrrh. Wine mixed with bitter herbs or myrrh created a potion that dulled the sense of pain. The mixture of sour wine and gall was often given to the suffering to ease their pain in death.
Of further note, Matthew did not say that Jesus refused a second offering of vinegar alone.
Matthew 27:48 (KJV)
48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
Please note this Bible scholar's further interpretation of this act of our WONDER LORD AND SAVIOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jesus refused this gall-laced concoction after He tasted it and realized what it was (Mark 15:23; John 19:29). In a supernatural display of courage, the Son of Man rejected anything that would numb the suffering He endured for our salvation. Sin against a holy God required extreme punishment, and, in order to completely fulfill His position as our substitute, Jesus wanted nothing that took away from that punishment. On the cross, Jesus became sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21). To accept wine with gall would lessen sin’s punishment, and Jesus had come to bear the full brunt of God’s wrath against sin, not to take an easier way out (Isaiah 53:10).
JESUS CAME TO “bear the FULL BRUNT of God's wrath against sin, not to take an EASIER WAY OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
WHAT A MIGHTY/WONDERFUL GOD WE SERVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JESUS PAID IT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please take the time and effort to read the AMAZING prophesy written THOUSANDS of years PRIOR to the life, death, burial, and RESURRECTION OF Jesus Christ found here:
Isaiah 53:1-12 (KJV)
1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
It is absolutely AMAZING how many FACTS occurred as prophesied!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TODAY, if you have not recognized the AMAZING FACT/FACTS concerning the ONLY TRUE AND LIVING GOD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, won't you bow your knees today and ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST INTO YOUR HEART AS LORD AND SAVIOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????
I, PERSONALLY, thank JESUS CHRIST daily for my own SALVATION!!! My only question is WHY did Jesus choose ME?????????????????????
John 15:16 (KJV)
16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
