It's Walktober!

October in Maryland becomes WALKTOBER, a month where the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) and other partnering agencies promote and host events and webinars spotlighting Maryland pedestrians' safety, health, and commuting options in current walk programs and Initiatives.

GGCC is a proud partner in this initiative. The MDOT, the MD Department of Planning, the MD Department of Health, MDOT State Highway Administration, MD Highway Safety Office, MD Department of Natural Resources, America Walks, and AARP are sharing a series of informational resources and free webinars for pedestrians throughout the month of October. The four webinars are tailored to interest pedestrian enthusiasts, advocates, planners, and residents. Throughout Walktober, learn how walking is an easy and accessible exercise, how to safely use pedestrian infrastructure, and how to incorporate walking in your daily routines within the provisions of social distancing and other restrictions.

These webinars provide American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) with 1.5 Certification Maintenance (CM) credits to maintain their certification. Please note, to receive AICP credit you must attend the live broadcast.

More Information about the webinars and Walktober here!

ACTION ALERT

GGCC is working hard behind the scenes, and in partnership with several other local Chambers and the Restaurant Association of Maryland, to strongly oppose the pending County Council legislation that would repeal the tipped wage credit. If you are a GGCC member in the restaurant/hospitality industry, and did not receive our action alert, please email Paula Ross.

PG County Council tabled their version of this bill just last week after restaurant servers and bartenders rallied against it. We need MoCo to do the same.

GGCC Member Story Tapestries is holding an arts supply drive to create Arts and Learning Kits. The GGCC office will be a drop-off site for art supplies through all of October! Please pick up some art supplies this weekend and drop off at the Chamber!
