Scholarship Opportunity!

The Mansfield Center is honored to offer two competitive scholarships totaling $3,000 to two UM undergraduate students each year to support the legacy of Senator Mike Mansfield and his commitment to ethical leadership. The Bob and Sue Brown Undergraduate Scholarships for Ethics in Public Affairs are made possible due to the generous support of anonymous donors who created an endowment that allows this scholarship to continue into perpetuity.

The scholarships are awarded to authors of academic papers or creative projects that focus substantially on a topic related to ethics in public affairs and submitted in fulfillment of course requirements in any subject that is part of the undergraduate curriculum. Faculty can nominate papers by emailing the Mansfield Ethics and Public Affairs Program Director, Rob Saldin, directly with their nomination.

Submissions are due by April 1st. You can find more information about eligibility and the nomination process on the Mansfield Center's website.

Creative ideas wanted for the Ruffatto Startup Challenge!

The Ruffatto Startup Challenge is the University of Montana’s annual competition to support student creativity and innovation to solve real-world problems. Workshops are now being offered to help UM students develop their startup and entrepreneurial ideas to submit to the 2024 Startup Challenge. The event is open to all UM majors and degrees.

Workshops will be held from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. every Wednesday through March 13 in the Innovation Factory (2nd floor of the UC). The workshops will seek to provide guidance and answer any questions prior to the final submission date. The submission deadline is Friday, March 22. 12 finalists will be selected to present their ideas in the final pitch competition, scheduled for Friday, April 26. Over 12 total awards will be presented to finalists, including prizes for Most Innovative Solution, Most Creative Idea, Most Compelling Female Participation, and greatest Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) impact.

The Ruffatto Startup Challenge is an entrepreneurship challenge hosted annually by the UM College of Business. Students will have the opportunity to network with over 250 professionals and community leaders who will attend final round presentations. A total of $50,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the competition winners. All UM students and faculty are welcome.
