Calling all Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors! | |
Applications are now open for both of the China study abroad programs offered by the Max S. Baucus Institute. Program 1 (May 22, 2025 through June 21, 2025) will travel to Beijing, Shandong province, and Shanghai. The program provides opportunities to students to learn about Chinese culture, technology and language. All in-country program expenses are covered and students selected for the program will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Baucus Institute to cover some of the cost of flights to China. Program 2 is hosted on Hangzhou Wanxiang Polytechnic’s campus in Hangzhou, China, and includes trips to Beijing and Shanghai. All expenses associated with the program are covered, including flights. | |

The Mansfield Library’s DEI Committee is holding a ticket giveaway for the UM School of Theatre and Dance’s production of Silent Sky. The committee put together a virtual exhibit about women’s contributions to the hard sciences, including the story of Phyllis Biddle-Hanson, a UM alumna. You can enter the giveaway by checking out the exhibit!
- The tickets are for the Friday (11/22) showing at 7:30pm, and the winner will be contacted on Wednesday, November 20th.

Experience the Vibrant World of Afro-Brazilian Dance at the University!
- DANC 108A.02 (1 cr.), Fridays 2:30-3:50P (CRN 33359)
- Join our all-levels Neo-Traditional Afro-Brazilian Dance class to immerse yourself in the rich, rhythmic, and expressive dances rooted in Afro-Brazilian culture. This semester-long journey will introduce you to dance genres that celebrate Afro-Brazilian religious and cultural heritage, including Umbanda and Candomblé. Through a study of Afro-Brazilian deities (Orixás) like Oxum, Oyá, Iemanjá, Naná, Obá, Ogun, Xango, Oxóssi, and Exu, you'll explore the unique movements, rhythms, and meanings each brings.
- Additionally, we’ll dive into other Afro-Brazilian forms, including Samba, Capoeira, Maculelê, and Maracatu, offering a well-rounded experience. Learn about the history and significance of these vibrant traditions while developing foundational skills in rhythm, musicality, and grounded movement. By semester's end, you'll feel confident in expressing Afro-Brazilian dance forms, embodying flow, breath, and freedom in every move.
