Become a Cultural Liaison!

With the support of the Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center, Cultural Liaisons will develop leadership skills and promote cross-cultural engagement by acting as a cultural guide for incoming YSEALI Academic Fellows. Each Cultural Liaison will be paired with one YSEALI Fellow. Through sharing time and conversing, Liaisons will help the Fellows understand the culture in which they have been immersed as well as learn about the culture and home country of the Fellow with whom they have been paired.

Cultural Liaisons will be responsible for aiding in cross-cultural engagement by attending a welcome event and farewell dinner, teaching YSEALI Fellows to use the Missoula bus system (prior experience using Missoula public transportation is not required), and spending a minimum of 2 hours a week with Fellows for 3 weeks. Cultural Liaisons and Fellows may spend that time however they choose, but Liaisons are encouraged to plan culturally engaging activities that will further define the context of American or Montanan life. Example activities are listed below. Cultural Liaisons will also be responsible for establishing a connection over email prior to YSEALI Fellows’ arrival to the United States, as well as attending a training on inter-cultural communication and an overview of the ASEAN region.
