Chris Hyslop has worked with humanitarian organizations and the United Nations around the world in Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Chechnya, the Balkans, China, Liberia, and Eritrea, and recently in Ukraine, Gaza, and Sudan. He served as the director of Montana World Affairs Council from 2020-2024 and as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kyrgyzstan from 1995-1997.

Wilderness and Civilization Informational Session!

Looking for a Beyond the Classroom Experience? Want to spend a semester hiking, backpacking, and learning more about wilderness-related issues? Come find out more about the Wilderness and Civilization program! Join us on Thursday, February 20, from 5:30-6:30 pm in Stone Hall 112, our new meeting space. Come for snacks and stay for questions & answers with alumni! UM’s unique Wilderness and Civilization program leads to a minor in Wilderness Studies after a fall semester studying the relationship between humans and wild spaces. And it qualifies as a Franke GLI Beyond the Classroom Experience! Applications are due by April 1, and currently, there are a handful of spots open for fall ‘26.

The 8th Annual Black Solidarity Summit will take place on UM’s campus February 27-28, celebrating and platforming Black, Indigenous, and intersecting voices through powerful speeches, artwork, and music.


Location: University Center Ballroom


his summit brings together Black Student Unions, African student associations, and experts on Black and Indigenous history and culture to discuss racial discrimination, honor historical figures and activists, and create a space for education, celebration, and solidarity.

Showing up for this opportunity is a meaningful way to support BSU and show solidarity with Black, Indigenous, and other intersecting communities on campus.
