President's Lecture Series: Station Eleven

Emily St. John Mandel is the bestselling author of numerous novels, including The Glass Hotel, Station Eleven, and Sea of Tranquility. Her novel Station Eleven, UM's 2024 Griz Read, was a finalist for a National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award, won the 2015 Arthur C. Clark Award, the Toronto Book Award, and the Morning News Tournament of Books, and was adapted into a limited series for HBO. A previous novel, The Singer's Gun, was the 2014 winner of the Prix Mystere de la Critique in France. Her short fiction and essays have been anthologized in numerous collections, including Best American Mystery Stories 2013. She is a staff writer for The Millions.

Her lecture will be held Tuesday, October 15th @ 7:00 PM in the UC Ballroom.

Call for Artists!

Are you a Montana artist between the ages of 19 and 39? Do you know someone interested in applying for an exciting invitational show with generous purchase awards? The Montana Museum of Art and Culture in Missoula, MT is putting out an open call for a juried exhibition of young Montana artists opening in spring 2025. Artwork from 19 contemporary artists within the ages of 19 to 39 will be selected for an exhibition at the MMAC. Artists working with all mediums and content are encouraged to apply. Purchase prizes of $10,000; $7,000; and $3,000 will be awarded. Application deadline is November 1, 2024.

Voter Information!

Late voter registration begins Tuesday, October 8! Those wanting to register to vote must do so in person at the Missoula County Elections Office Building B, located at 140 N. Russell St. (late registration ends Monday, November 4) at 12 p.m.

  • October 11th, 2024 – Absentee ballots will be mailed out
  • October 29th, 2024 – Vote Early Day
  • November 5th, 2024 – Election Day
