August 2021 Edition
A newsletter for the car enthusiast!
From the Desk of Darrel Burnett
Executive Director
The month of August always seems to bring with it a certain amount of melancholy. No matter how much fun we are having those 31 days send a stern warning that “you better drink in every last drop of summer because fall is right over there!” This year I decided to put all the angst of August behind us. You see, August isn’t a metaphor for the end of something at all. August actually represents the beginning of something truly wonderful… the Jeep!

70 years-ago yesterday, August 1st, 1941, the first Jeep rolled off the assembly line in the unlikeliest of places, Butler, Pennsylvania. With a birth weight of just 1300 lbs., soon beefing up to 2,000 lbs. to better serve the Army, the agile and lightweight Jeep turned out to be a true heavyweight around the world. By the end of World War II, 640,000 Jeeps had played a critical role in the Allies defeat of Adolph Hitler. A full 7 decades later, Jeep is still one of the most recognizable automotive names in the world. A vehicle that cost a mere $732 in 1941 is now in the Museum of Modern Art in New York in the company of Ferrari and Jaguar. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Would you like to see how it all started? Our great restoration team, led by Bruce Van Straten, is responsible for the beautiful Army Jeep restored to the exact standards for a 1941 Army Jeep. It belonged to a true American hero, Master Command Sergeant Brian Sengbusch, who was one of the original founders of the famous Army Special Forces team, Delta Force. In the ultimate tribute to their brother’s service and sacrifice for our country, Keith and Bruce Sengbusch donated their brother’s personal Jeep to The Automobile Gallery. Both Jeep and Master Command Sergeant Sengbusch gave all for their country.
Here’s hoping you drink every last drop of August and think about new beginnings instead of summer coming to an end. As for me, I never look at a Jeep without thinking of Master Command Sergeant Sengbusch and I will never again look at the month of August the same way either. Here’s to new beginnings!

The Drive to End Alzheimer's
August 22, 2021
10:00am - 2:00pm
The Automobile Gallery is very proud to once again host The 2nd Annual Drive to End Alzheimer’s Car Cruise and Luncheon here at the Gallery with all proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Association locally.

The Car Cruise will have an East Side and a West Side Route that will be cruising by Memory Care and Assisted Living Facilities throughout the Green Bay Area. With COVID19, Assisted Living and Memory Care residents haven’t been able to get out to enjoy their typical outings, so we have decided to take the fun to them! We will be driving slowly past several facilities to let the residents have a wonderful morning of seeing everyone driving past their windows.

Both cruise routes will end at The Automobile Gallery with admission to the gallery and a wonderful Booyah lunch. Meet at the designated beginning locations (Locations to be announced in August) at 10:00am for instructions and line up. The car cruise will leave the designated locations at 10:30am making their way to The Automobile Gallery, where the great people at The Herman’s Club will have made what they are very well known for, their Booyah! If you can’t make it to the cruise, you can still participate, just meet us at the Gallery starting at 11:30am when lunch and tours of the gallery will be available.

For only $20 per person, you can participate in The Drive to End Alzheimer’s car cruise, join the fun at The Automobile Gallery with some Booyah, dessert and non-alcoholic beverages (cash bar available), and tour The Automobile Gallery. See over 90 classic cars everything from a 1912 Maxwell to a 2020 Ford GT! In addition, you support the Alzheimer’s Association and the crucial programs and services it provides right here in our communities. Giving back to a great cause, brightening the day of those in local care facilities, Booyah and 100 years of historic cars! What a wonderful Sunday it will be for all!

REO Club of North America
Visits The Automobile Gallery
The Automobile Gallery was honored to host President John Phillips and 114 members of the REO Club of North America July 16th. The rock band REO Speedwagon took its name from the fabulous REO Speedwagon pick-up truck.

REO Speedwagon Band
What you may not know is that the initials REO stand for Ransom E. Olds, the founder of Oldsmobile. Ransom left the company bearing his name in 1904 in a dispute with co-founder Fred Smith and formed REO Motor Company which produced cars and trucks until 1975. The band REO Speedwagon and the REO Club of North America have something in common, they’re both still touring after all these years.
