City making progress on accessibility initiatives
An estimate of 40,000 St. Catharines residents living with a disability reinforces the importance of ongoing accessibility planning and the delivery of inclusive municipal services to meet the needs of all residents.
The City is committed to developing, implementing, maintaining, and enhancing accessibility as set out under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. In an update on the progress of the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan (MYAP), St. Catharines City Council heard about new museum exhibits, new sidewalks, trail realignments, tennis courts and other accessibility achievements the City accomplished last year.
The MYAP report further noted that this reinforces the importance of ongoing accessibility planning and inclusive municipal services that serve all residents.

More development applications including sustainability features
An uptick in developers incorporating sustainable design when applying for Community Improvement Plan (CIP) incentives is being recognized as a win in the City’s Climate Adaptation Plan progress report.
City Council heard that continued promotion and adoption of the sustainable site design points section within the CIP — one of 28 actions in the Climate Adaptation Plan — has led to more development applications including sustainability features compared to the previous CIP.
This ongoing initiative has resulted in a wide range of environmental commitments from developers, including electric vehicle charger installations, native and drought-tolerant landscaping, bicycle parking that exceeds zoning requirements, permeable pavement, community gardens, and solar panels.
The Climate Adaptation Plan includes a total of 28 actions with eight actions in progress, seven completed, nine ongoing and four to be implemented.
