Glenmore Gatehouse: What You Need to Know

The gatehouse and its officers are crucial to maintaining security within Glenmore. With over 1,000 vehicles passing through daily—nearly one every thirty seconds—your cooperation, respect, and adherence to procedures are essential for effective security. Ensuring that all visitors are properly registered is key to maintaining efficient traffic flow.

License Plate Recognition System

Our security cameras accurately read residents' license plates 99.5% of the time. However, occasional malfunctions or misreads may occur, causing brief delays while gatehouse personnel manually verify addresses or license plates. Please be patient during such instances as this manual verification by the officer is critical for maintaining security.

Respect and Cooperation

Recently, there have been instances where gatehouse officers have faced verbal abuse, including profanity, from residents when the gate does not open immediately or when officers need to call a resident because a visitor is not registered. Such mistreatment is unacceptable and undermines the officers' commitment to community safety.

The key responsibilities and limitations of the gatehouse officers:

Responsibilities:

1. Security Monitoring: Officers over see all vehicles and pedestrians entering the community at the main entrance to ensure they are authorized and pose no security threat.

2. Incident Reporting: When Officers observe any suspicious activity they are required to report it to the Albemarle County Police Department.

3. Visitor Management: Entry is permitted only for authorized visitors or guests. If a visitor is not pre-registered, the officer will contact the resident for confirmation. Residents should inform the gatehouse in advance about any visitors, contractors, or major deliveries via TekControl, email or phone not on the permanent list to avoid delays and ensure smooth entry.

4. New Homeowner Processing: Glenmore's Gatehouse Captain handles all new homeowners registration and update forms as well as the removal of those no longer residing in Glenmore, handling an average of 18 transactions per month.

Limitations:

1. Law Enforcement Authority: Gatehouse officers are not police officers, are unarmed, and cannot arrest or detain individuals. For such situations, residents should contact the Albemarle County police directly.

2. Perimeter Bound: Officers cannot leave the gatehouse area to monitor activities throughout the community

Please treat gatehouse officers with respect, understanding their role in community security.
