AUGUST 2018: News, Events, and Opportunities for CASA Volunteers
A letter from CASA Executive Director Angela Rose

Dear CASA Volunteers:
Hello everyone! I hope you all are enjoying the final days of summer. It's always an exciting time to see the kids go back to school. Back-to-school time is also, for me, a reminder of just how important your work is right here in our community.
Last week, we were able to witness some of the impact that CASA volunteers have when 45 foster teens attended our Teen Back to School Night in The Hanger. They came for everything from studying tips to style tips, received school supplies, and showed us how much they really want to succeed. Your volunteerism helps these kids succeed.
With CASA's D&N, Life Long Links, Milton Foster Children's Fund, and SEPT programs geared up for a great fiscal year, we plan to serve even more kids than we did last year. And we're off to a good start with 17 new volunteer advocates and SEPT facilitators sworn in last month alone in both El Paso and Teller Counties. Our five new Teller County advocates are pictured above! Check out our new volunteers here.
Thank you for all that you do. Enjoy your weekend, and as always feel free to contact me any time with ideas, questions, or concerns!

Residential Resource Notebook available to Advocates
CASA has a new resource geared to advocates working with youth in residential treatment facilities.
Materials have been collected from the programs we seem to work with the most and a Residential Resource Notebook is now available to you in the Volunteer Lounge.
As the need arises, feel free to check this out to improve your understanding of the therapeutic environment, level system, rules and expectations, visitation protocol, etc.
New Start With One initiative is picking up steam!
Our new fundraising initiative, Start With One, is taking off! So far, seven people have committed to raising $2,000 which is the cost to provide an advocate to one child for one year.
Kelly Eustace and Brett Denison of ABC Rocky Mountain are shown to the right holding their Start With One commitment card.
People are invited to become involved with Start With One either individually or as part of a group. Find our more on the Start With One webpage or attend an info session on Aug. 23, Sept. 5, or Sept. 25. Learn more about the info sessions here.
Light of Hope is ready to go above the clouds!
As you may have heard by now, CASA is bringing Light of Hope to Teller County!
Join us on Tuesday, Sept. 18 for the inaugural Light of Hope Teller presented by Newmont Mining Corporation. The breakfast fundraiser will be held from 7:30-8:30 AM at Shining Mountain Golf Course and all proceeds will stay in Teller County.
There are still event sponsorship and table hosting opportunities available. Please contact Jill Cheetham at if you'd like to sponsor the event (individually or through your company) or if you'd like to host a table of 10 friends who have a heart for children.
Request a thoughtful gift for your CASA child today

Advocate Sarah Hogan recently picked up a custom quilt for her CASA child, made by volunteer Sandra Kyner.
"I picked it up today and it is so lovely.  I am sure my little CASA kid will love having something warm, that was made just for her," Sarah said. "What a valuable and thoughtful gift for kids who are going through a lot."
Want to request a custom quilt for your CASA child? Contact Angela at and tell her what type of character or theme your child might enjoy on a quilt.
Limited number of youth ZOO TICKETS available

We have a very limited number of YOUTH (ages 3-11) Cheyenne Mountain Zoo tickets available! We would like to apply for more tickets but cannot until all of these are used, so if you request tickets please use them in the next month. The tickets do have a $0.75 fee due at the gate for each ticket which benefits the Quarters for Conservation program. For details, please email
