February 2020: News, Events, and Opportunities for CASA Volunteers

Letter from CASA Executive Director Angela Rose

Dear CASA Volunteers:

February marks the annual celebration of love, and I can think of no one with more love in their hearts than our very own CASA volunteers.

Thank you for the love and compassion you show to the children of the Pikes Peak Region every day of the year.

It is always a special time to meet new people with big hearts, and I had the chance to do that this week when I met the newest advocates at our swearing in ceremony.

Another special moment this month happened when the Colorado Springs World Affairs Council chose our CASA to play host to a delegation of nonprofit leaders from Middle Eastern and North African countries. I had the opportunity to meet with them as they sought to learn about nonprofit management in the United States. Click here to read more about this amazing experience.

We want inclusion to be who we are, not just a part of what we do. To that end, my hope is we can all learn and grow and move the organization forward together. As part of this effort you will be seeing more about inclusion in the Gist in the coming months.

February has been pretty great so far. As we look ahead to next month, I am hoping to see many of you at our CASA-wide Volunteer Impact Event on March 2. We also have our next advocate training class beginning on March 3 and there is still plenty of time for your friends and family members to apply, so pass the message on!

As always, please do not hesitate to reach out any time. I hope you all enjoy a wonderful Valentine's Day!

Sincerely,
Angela

Business Partner Spotlight: Covington Homes

It all started at a church nonprofit fair back in 2009. That's when Grace Covington decided to become involved with CASA of the Pikes Peak Region. Fast forward a decade, and Grace and her husband, Ron, are still doing everything in their power to change the stories of children right here in the Pikes Peak Region. The couple's business, Covington Homes, is a Business Partner of CASA. Please click here to learn more about this community partner and find out why supporting CASA is so important to their business.

CASA-wide Volunteer Impact Event is March 2

Welcome new Court Appointed Special Advocates!

We are thrilled to welcome our newest Court Appointed Special Advocates who were sworn in on Feb. 10.

"You are going to be a lifeline for a young man or a young woman," Magistrate McGuire told the volunteers just before they took the oath.

Summer Camp Registrations Are Open Now!

While it is still cold outside, summer camps are already planning summer fun! Camps tend to fill up by March, so please start thinking about camps for your kids and teens. MFCF currently partners with Camp Shady Brook, Camp Jackson, and Eagle Lake Camp to provide an overnight camp experience for youth in foster care, so apply here for MFCF funding for camp today! (Youth must have an open D&N case through El Paso or Teller Counties, cannot be living with biological mom or dad, and have not received funds from MFCF since last summer.)
