International Hospitaller Conference Hungary 2018

Hospitallers from all over the world gathered together in Hungary for the 26th Annual Hospitaller Conference. This year the conference was hosted by the Hungarian Association in Budapest. The conference gave Hospitallers the opportunity to share with each other reports of their work and their achievements in serving the mission of the Order of Malta. During the conference Msgr. Lafitte, the Prelate of the Order gave a talk on the virtue of hospitality and the joy of service to the sick and those in need.    His speech can be read here . Fra’ Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto, Lieutenant of the Grand Master, shared his praise for those providing care to the poor, the sick and the forgotten through the hospitaller works of the Order of Malta. Read the letter here .

The Order of Malta’s Ambassador to the Roma People at Large, H.E. Franz Salm-Reifferscheidt was awarded the Cross of Commander, "Kommandeurkreuz", by the Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary, Zsolt Semjen, for his work serving the Roma community in Hungary. The Award was presented at a ceremony and dinner at the Hungarian Parliament.

The Global Fund for Forgotten People have awarded grants to support the Roma People since 2012.

The Fund has awarded 12 grants to projects run by 5 different bodies of the Order serving the Roma People across 4 Eastern European countries.

Helping Disadvantaged Children, Romania, Romanian Relief Service The Fund supports the Romanian Relief Service's project improving the living conditions and providing mental and physical healthcare for 20 children from 7 to 15 years old. Read More

Faces of our Order: Monsignor Kozma   Monsignor Kozma is the co-founder of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta. During the recent Hospitaller Conference, Monsignor Kozma spoke to the delegates about the work of the Order in Hungary in the 1980s and their assistance to over 48,500 refugees fleeing East Germany.

During the Hospitaller Conference delegates visited a monument commemorating the work of the Order in Hungary during the 1980s which included two pieces of the Berlin Wall and two of the Order's ambulances used in assisting refugees.

The Order of Malta's International Pilgrimage to Lourdes, France The Order of Malta’s 60th international pilgrimage to Lourdes will be held from 4th to 9th May. The pilgrimage will include nearly 4,500 dames, knights, chaplains, doctors and volunteers assisting over 1,500 sick and disabled pilgrims.
