Welcome Back!
Welcome to the first day of the 2020-2021 school year! It was fun to see the excitement of the children wearing masks and name tags, carrying snack bags and water bottles, and eager to find their classrooms and friends. We appreciate parents wearing their face coverings and assisting with our new arrival and dismissal processes.

Personalized staff photo tags showing faces without a mask helped make connections with the children, and frequent handwashing and sanitizing have become a new way of life for all of us. We are counting on and grateful for everyone practicing healthy habits away from campus so we can keep each other safe while spending the school year Together Responsibly.

Reopening Plan in Action!
Thank you again to our returning Infant Community and Primary families for your assistance during our first day of revised arrival and dismissal procedures. We were proud to see everyone observing proper health and safety protocols, and look forward to making sure the beginning and end of our days together run as seamlessly as possible.

To assist our Primary-High School families with morning arrival, we created a short video tutorial that highlights the process and shows alternative, socially distant ways for young children to greet their guides each morning.
The St. Catherine's Reopening Plan, which was emailed to parents earlier this summer, is posted to the school's website.
2020-2021 Board of Directors and Officers
This summer, the SCM Board of Directors welcomed two new members, current parents Angie Gubitz and Misty Matin. Alumni parent Ryan Patterson has assumed the role of President and will continue as Treasurer, with Angie serving as Vice President and Misty as Secretary.

St. Catherine's is honored to have these dedicated individuals serve as officers for the 2020-2021 school year, and blessed by the guidance and expertise of every member of the board of directors. Click here to learn more about the board and each of its nine members.

A Message from Sister Theresa Josephine
Our community is blessed to be a member of the United States Association of The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. This association provides resources about nurturing your child's faith during this time of the COVID-19 pandemic, and on many other related topics. I would like to invite you and your family to discover this precious gift on their website.
Volunteers Needed For 2020-2021 School Year
The PSO seeks volunteers to serve on committees this school year. We recognize that many PSO activities and events will probably look quite different in 20-21, but we will still need parents and guardians (and grandparents too) to help!

The following committees are in search of volunteers:

  • Casa de Esperanza
  • Friends of the Arts
  • Friends of Athletics
  • Friends of the Garden
  • Friends of the Library
  • Faculty and Staff Appreciation Luncheon
  • Fall Fest
  • Spring Fling
  • Square 1 Art

Click here to learn more about the PSO, and email if you are interested in joining a committee. We are more than happy to discuss these committees' needs with you before you sign up.
PSO Summer Book Club Recap
A Message from Catherine Barber, PSO President
On June 26, a small but lively group of SCM parents discussed via Zoom "We Need to Talk: How to Have Conversations that Matter," by Nicole Headlee.

Themes from the discussion included the importance of truly listening (rather than thinking about what you are going to say next while the other person is talking), the value of asking questions during a conversation, and the perils of trying to change another person's mind rather than understanding that person's perspective. Participants agreed that the pandemic, in particular, has shone a light on the importance of effective conversations. This book fits the bill for anyone looking for practical, reasonable advice for improving their conversation skills.
Stay tuned for a survey from the PSO Book Club on topics and titles for 20-21. An announcement about the first book club discussion of the fall semester will be made soon!
Casa de Esperanza Back-to-School Supplies Drive
Thank you to everyone who supported the children of Casa de Esperanza through the July Back-to-School Supplies Drive!

Casa de Esperanza is an organization with strong ties to the St. Catherine's community. Co-founded in 1982 by SCM alumni parent Kathy Foster, this non-profit organization strives to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect for at-risk infants, children, and their families by providing comprehensive residential and family support programs that transform people and communities. Over the years, the PSO’s Casa de Esperanza Committee has coordinated our community’s support efforts by organizing supply, clothing, and basic needs drives at school.

Your generous donation of school supplies will help many children start the school year on a positive note. There will be another opportunity to support Casa de Esperanza in December with the annual Pajama and Basic Needs Drive.
If you would like to submit something for the Globe, please send it for approval to by Monday at noon.
