August 31, 2022
Today we celebrate Maria Montessori's birthday. She was born on August 31, 1870 in Chiaravalle, Italy. Montessori was trained not as an educator but rather as a medical doctor who later studied philosophy, psychology, and anthropology. Dr. Montessori viewed education as an "aid to life," serving the development of the whole child and integrating the spiritual with the intellectual. She recognized that the way to create a peaceful world was through the child – work that earned her three nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize.

You can learn more about Maria Montessori by visiting the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) website.
COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
We invite all parents – returning and new – to attend the Welcome Back Parent Meeting. Head of School Lina Delgado, the administration, and our Parent Service Organization will welcome everyone to a new year at St. Catherine’s and share many of the ways families can get involved in the life of the school.

The 22-23 school year is a big one – not only is it the return of a full slate of in-person activities after two years away, but this is also a gala year. Volunteer opportunities and social engagements abound, and we are looking forward to reconnecting as a community!

Join us for breakfast and a first opportunity to visit with PSO committees, parents, and staff about the various service, social, and fundraising activities that will take place this year.

Book Club Survey

Please take a moment to take this survey to assist the chairs of the PSO Book Club in selecting books for this school year. This survey will close on Friday, September 9.

The first book club meeting of the school year will take place on Friday, October 21 at 9:00 AM in the gym. Stay tuned for the announcement for the first selection.
Hosts Needed for Parent Potlucks

PSO Class Potlucks are adult-only events that allow parents from each class to get to know one another. One family in each class hosts a potluck in their home, and guests all bring a special dish to share. These meals are a wonderful opportunity for parents to connect with each other early in the school year. Many long-lasting friendships have started at a parent potluck.

Each classroom has been assigned a date and time for its potluck, and we are now in search of hosts. Please click here to check out the sign up and consider hosting for your child’s class!
