Celebrating the Season of Advent
Advent is the season of the liturgical calendar we observe as a time of preparation. We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and prepare for his Second Coming. At St. Catherine’s Montessori, students prepare in a variety of ways for this special time of year. Primary students, led by Sister Theresa Josephine, are learning about Advent in the Atrium. The children prepare their hearts and minds for Jesus' coming by practicing acts like kindness, charity, and patience. Each act is symbolized by a strip of paper straw, which each child receives at the beginning of Advent to place into Jesus' nativity crib. The Elementary students paint and decoupage figurines of the nativity with Sr. Theresa Josephine, and each child will then bring their nativity set home to open on Christmas Day. The Adolescent Community will make blankets for Loaves and Fishes (MHI), and are writing supportive letters to immigrant families being detained at the Texas border. The High School is sponsoring several children on the Casa de Esperanza Christmas drive list.

ADVANCING THE MISSION
Celebrating Generosity
Yesterday was GivingTuesday, the global day of giving hosted each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Thank you, thank you to everyone who helped make this the best GivingTuesday in St. Catherine’s history. With your help we more than exceeded our $4,000 gift match and set a new GivingTuesday school record.

Together, our community of parents, grandparents, alumni, alumni families, faculty/staff, and friends raised $31,897 in new commitments to the SCM Annual Fund, and increased parent participation from 45% to 66%!

Reaching our goal of $240,000 will allow St. Catherine’s to fund the full cost of educating every child enrolled this school year and cover the unexpected expenses brought on by COVID-19. Yesterday marked the start of year-end giving season, so remember you can always give or pledge online at www.stcathmont.org/annualfund or contact me to make your giving arrangements.

Thank you again for the difference you are making at St. Catherine’s! We certainly are blessed by this beautiful community.

HIGH SCHOOL CORNER
Christmas Traditions in the High School
Welcome back to the High School Corner!

This week we’re feeling festive! As Christmas quickly approaches, we’ve decided to dress up our room to reflect our own merry mood. We started our first day back at school by listening to some traditional Christmas carols, preparing our Advent wreath, hosting a celebratory decking of our “halls,” and snowflake-making. Check out our decorations in these pictures, including our very own patented High School tradition: The Harry Styles Christmas Tree!

Thank you for reading!
