OUR FAITH IN ACTION
This afternoon we celebrated Mass for Ash Wednesday with the reception of ashes to mark the beginning of the season of Lent in preparation for Easter.

Lent is a period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving rooted in the 40-day fast of Jesus in the wilderness.

Extended Deadline and Online Portal: Share Your Insights
We invite all members of the SCM community to help us clarify the St. Catherine’s story! Now through Friday, March 6th add your ideas to the poster boards in the Welcome Center that ask, “Why you are part of the St. Catherine’s Community?” and “What words you would use to describe St. Catherine’s?”

If you haven't yet added post-it notes to the board, or weren't approached by clipboard-wielding high school students during carpool last week, please take the time to share your feedback - either in the Welcome Center or online .

The goal of this work is to focus on the most important aspects of the St. Catherine’s story that remain true throughout the experience in order to ensure families have a shared sense of purpose. Together, we will work to create a way to include that central story in everything we say and do across our school.
Yearbook Order Deadline: This Friday, February 28
Don't miss out on all of the great memories from this school year. This Friday is your last chance  to purchase a 2019-2020 yearbook. PSO ACTIVITIES
New and Improved Box Tops Program
The Box Tops for Education program is changing the way we can earn cash for our school! Participating brands have begun to change their packaging from the traditional Box Tops clip to the new Box Tops label.

Going forward, instead of clipping from packages and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt. There is a NEW-and-improved, user-friendly Box Tops mobile app, available now. The new app allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings online.

More information can be found on the flyer that went home today in your child’s Red Folder.
HIGH SCHOOL CORNER
Welcome back to the High School Corner!
If you happened to walk by the High School’s classroom on Tuesday afternoon, you would’ve heard smooth jazz music and seen eleven young adults and two guides sipping on coffee, sitting on the floor with blankets and surrounded by fairy lights, and munching on banana bread and cookies. While it may have seemed like our high school was settling down to have a nap, we were actually getting ready to hold a private poetry reading in our classroom!

For the past few months, we have been learning as much as we can about the wonderful world of poetry in our Writer’s Workshop class. Over Christmas break, we were each tasked with finding a poem we enjoyed and wanted to further analyze. We chose poems from a variety of authors including C.P. Cavafy, Maya Angelou, Margaret Atwood, Robert Frost, and Walt Whitman. After choosing our poems, we analyzed their structure, rhyme scheme and meter, syntax, word choice, figurative language, and any other characteristics of interest. After gaining a deep understanding of our poems, we wrote an analytical essay about them that also touched on their connection to our personal lives. Then, we wrote our own original poems or songs that somehow responded to or expanded on the famous work we'd selected.

As the final culmination of this work, we used Tuesday’s Writer’s Workshop class period to share our poem and song creations with each other. We were extremely excited to spend a cozy afternoon together nerding-out over poetry; it was the perfect way to showcase our work.

Click to watch a video of the final pieces of work presented by Jacob Blackman and Isabella Godfrey at our poetry reading.

Thank you for reading; we hope you’ll be back to read more next week!
