January 18, 2023

Montessori Night School is Thursday, February 2 from 5:00 to 6:45 PM. This come-and-go event is a wonderful opportunity for parents to see Montessori work in action. Primary and Lower Elementary children will show their parents their classrooms and demonstrate the lessons they are learning, while Upper Elementary students will present research.

Mr. Snow's classroom will host a geography fair; the students voted to focus on Europe. In Ms. Spesia's room the students will present a colloquium featuring individual research stations on a variety of topics. Parents with students of all ages are invited and encouraged to visit the Upper Elementary classrooms.

INSIDE THE CLASSROOM

Student-led Community Service Project in Ms. Catherine's Class

Ms. Catherine's Lower Elementary class collected food for Braes Interfaith Ministries at the end of 2022. The whole school brought in canned goods and pasta, and there was a lot of food collected! On Friday, the three children who initiated this project (it was all their idea), took the food to the ministry, which is located around the corner on W. Bellfort. It was wonderful because the people who go to the ministry to collect food were actually present. The children were able to see how the ministry works and how their efforts would immediately benefit those in need.

High School Corner: Alumni Night 2023

Dear SCM Community,

During the first week of the 2023 school year, St. Catherine's invited our high school alumni to participate in a panel discussion. Moderated by four current high school students - Laura Lopez, Alexa Rivas-Gassan, Caroline Lewis, and Gaby Palmer - the panel was held in the SCM gym, and parents and guides were invited to listen to each graduate’s insights into a number of prepared questions. The discussion was not only a huge success, but also a milestone moment for St. Catherine’s, as it was the first time the school has had an alumni night with graduates from our high school. At the end of the panel, attendees were invited to ask questions, which the alumni were happy to answer.

The next day, the alumni were invited back to the school for an alumni lunch with the Adolescent Community and the High School, where we enjoyed a nice barbeque meal and were able to ask the alumni more questions that we had as current high school and middle school students. The alumni were able to catch up with each other, other students, and old guides. We were very happy to invite the alumni back to St. Catherine’s, and we hope to have more of these events in the future, as our number of graduates increases!

Thank you all for reading!

Caroline Lewis
