COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Staffing Update: Amelia Hemming
It is with fond affection that we announce that catechist Amelia Hemming will not return to St. Catherine’s Montessori at the conclusion of her maternity leave. We wish Amelia (along with Sam and baby Alban) the very best as she embarks on this exciting new chapter. Amelia began working in the Atrium in 2010, and joined St. Catherine’s as our full-time catechist in 2015. During her time here, she worked with children of all ages in the Atrium and helped coordinate Mass, liturgies, and spiritual retreats.

Sr. Herlinda will serve as catechist for our Primary, Elementary, and High School students.
Join the SCM Board’s Building and Grounds Committee!
The SCM Board of Directors is looking for individuals with experience in facilities management and/or operations to join our Building and Grounds Committee.

This committee meets on an as-needed basis to address significant campus repair, maintenance, and operations issues as they arise.  For example, if we experience problems with the school’s expensive HVAC equipment, we would like to have someone to consult regarding the need for repair or replacement of the equipment, vendor reputation, and reasonableness of costs, among other matters.

If you are interested in this opportunity to volunteer your time and experience to the SCM community, or know of someone who may be, please contact Chris Jordan.
Register for the Upcoming Parent Education Events: Moving Up to Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Adolescent Community
Parents of all levels are invited to attend our upcoming Moving Up events.

The Guides from our Lower Elementary, Upper Elementary, and Adolescent Community classrooms will discuss what you can expect at these stages of your child's academic, spiritual, moral, and emotional development. In addition, they will discuss the Montessori curriculum at each level and give you a sense of how a day in the classroom might unfold.

We hope you will take this opportunity to gain a fuller understanding of the Montessori experience, get to know the Guides at these levels, and ask questions to help prepare your family for the next phases of your child's education at St. Catherine's Montessori.

The Globe Archives Now Available Online
If you often find yourself wanting to revisit a past issue of  The Globe , but dread the task of scrolling through a sea of old emails, we’re here to help you out! The Globe is now  available online. Every Wednesday, around the time the e-newsletter hits your inboxes, we’ll post a slightly modified version on the school website – under the What’s New tab. As these versions will be available to the public, they will not include parent contact information or student names.

We’d also like to remind you that the school website is an ever-evolving source of news and information, featuring updated and new content to help current and future members of our community keep up on school happenings and discover all that St. Catherine’s Montessori has to offer.
ADVANCING THE MISSION
Your Giving in Action: New Things to Explore in the Primary Courtyard
During Christmas break, the Primary Courtyard underwent a minor makeover with the  installation  of  three pieces of playground equipment. The children are having a fantastic time strengthening their bodies, improving their coordination, and gaining confidence while playing on their new balance beam, spider web climber, and monkey bars.

The hours of physical activity and fun our Primary children will enjoy comes courtesy of the generous Paddles Up contributions made at the November 3rd gala, Night Owl Soirée. Our community gave a record $46,500 in Paddles Up donations to help fund wish list items identified by our Guides.

In addition to the Primary Courtyard equipment, these monies will purchase a riding mower and storage shed for Japhet Creek, and fund improvements to the lighting in our school gym. The lawnmower and shed will arrive later this spring after completion of other pending projects at Japhet. Our electrician assessed the lighting over the holidays, and soon will complete the improvements to our gym.

Thank you to everyone who raised a paddle to give so generously to the children of St. Catherine’s!
Sociables Sign-Up Day is Friday, January 11 (Now with MORE parties!)
Tickets for Spring Sociables will be available for purchase throughout the day. We will be in the Gym from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM, and in the Welcome Center from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.

Some Sociables hosts will be on hand to entice you to attend their parties and answer any questions. We'll serve coffee and snacks in the morning, and encourage you to mingle while you browse and buy.

Please make sure you review the updated Sociables Catalog before Friday. We added five new events this week – Fun at The Fish Gallery, Harry Potter Craft Making Afternoon, Dancing and Desserts, Annual Ladies Bunco, and Elementary End of Year Swim Party – which means you may need to adjust your Sociables Shopping Plan of Attack. Many of the most-anticipated events sell out quickly, so come early or arrange for a friend to purchase your tickets!
