Conference time is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the interests and accomplishments of our developing children. We love them for who they are. Dr. Montessori recognized the importance of considering all aspects of the human personality when providing the best environment for optimal growth. At St. Catherine’s we support the development of the whole person in preparation for life; we foster a culture of love and recognition of each person’s human dignity; and we encourage each person’s natural desire to make a contribution to the world. We look forward to celebrating your child with you during conferences!

First Plane (Ages 0-6)
In the Primary classroom, the space is designed for freedom and movement. Physical activity helps to develop coordination.

Primary students in Ms. Jennifer's class are using chopsticks and spoons to develop strength and coordination in the small muscles of the hands. Students will use chopsticks and spoons to practice placing objects from one container to another. These activities improve fine motor skills and allow children to develop hand muscles for use in activities such as cutting with scissors, holding a pencil, and writing.
Second Plane (Ages 6-12)
Ms. Kristen's class has been busy in the garden planting and harvesting carrots, radishes and kale. Gardening allows for students to connect with nature and nurture living things and requires patience, dedication, and hard work. Students are learning responsibility as they care for their gardens. Students are able to take home part of the produce they grow when it's ready to harvest.
Third Plane (Ages 12-18)
The High school seniors have been working on one of the signature features of senior year at St. Catherine’s Montessori: the senior capstone project. The senior capstone is an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in a self-designed project and exercise adult-level independence as they transition into the next chapter of their lives. Students are able to pursue self-guided research in an area of high individual interest and develop connections by interacting with professionals in the greater community.

On April 21st at 6:00pm, the senior class will be holding an in-person presentation of their capstone projects. Stay tuned for more details!
REMEMBERING OUR FOUNDRESS

“It is with great pride that I can say Sr. Ann was likely the most life-changing teacher I encountered in my life-long journey towards adulthood.”

~Former student/current SCM parent

OUR FAITH

Today we celebrate Ash Wednesday with the reception of ashes to mark the beginning of the season of Lent in preparation for Easter. Lent is a period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving rooted in the 40-day fast of Jesus in the wilderness.

A Lenten Message from Pope Francis.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Bruce Moses has been part of the St. Catherine’s community since 2006. Although he has been serving as the school’s Technology Manager in recent years, he has also played other roles, including an Upper Elementary guide and an Elementary substitute.

But perhaps the role of which Bruce is most fond is as an active parent-volunteer during the years when his two sons (now thriving, young adults) attended St. Catherine’s, as it allowed him to engage in the strong community spirit that has always been at the heart of the school’s culture.

In looking back, his boys give their Montessori upbringing enormous credit for allowing them the freedom to ‘grow into themselves’ while also guiding them into being broad-minded, resourceful, responsible, collaborative, and community-minded adults.

One of Bruce’s favorite quotes by Maria Montessori: “To stimulate life, leaving it free, however, to unfold itself -- that is the first duty of the educator.”
