Financial Aid 101 Recap
Last month we were fortunate to have a tremendously helpful "College Financial Aid 101" virtual presentation by representatives from St. Edward's University. They discussed the ins and outs of federal financial aid, institutional support and merit scholarships, and provided great insight into working with college financial services counselors. Please click here for the Zoom audio recording and PowerPoint presentation.

ADVANCING THE MISSION
It's the Final Stretch of Steps 4 Students 2021
Steps at SCM was a success! Last week our Elementary through High Schools students (some alongside their guides and assistants) raced, walked and ran a course around our Timberside campus. Everyone had a great time, and we were happy to find a distinctly St. Catherine's way of participating in this annual tradition. Click here to view our video recap and check out race results.

The fun didn't stop there! One of our Primary students ran his 5K last weekend alongside parents, grandparents, an aunt and uncle, and cousins. You can see their family race photo here in our Steps photo gallery. Steps 4 Students participants have until this Saturday, March 6 to race/walk/run and log their results. We encourage all families to send us your photos for inclusion in the gallery.
Thank you again to everyone who joined Team SCM this year and donated in support of tuition aid for St. Catherine's families. Our generous donors made quick work of our original $2,000 goal and many answered the call to assist us in reaching our stretch goal of $5,000. Donations can be made here through March 12, after which we look forward to sharing the final fundraising results for Steps 2021.
INSIDE & OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Mr. Snow's Upper Elementary Class in Action
Mr. Snow's class had a lesson on the relationship between mountains and rivers (water moves from highland to lowland). The children made continent maps that show the major mountain ranges of the continents and the major rivers they form. From here, students will begin a study of political geography to examine where cities are placed (usually near a freshwater source).

HIGH SCHOOL CORNER
Children's Biography Project Part 2
Welcome back to the High School Corner!

This week we would like to update you on our children's biography project. The project drew upon our knowledge from both Writer’s Workshop and Humanities with the goal of helping Mrs. Lewis review the biographies in the school library! Every high school student chose an American historical figure who lived in the time before Reconstruction. We did in-depth research on our chosen historical figure and then assessed how accurately the children’s biographies in the St. Catherine’s Library portray said historical figure. Last Friday, we presented our findings to Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Lopez in the form of essays accompanied by a short spoken summary of our work.

Check out some of our essays below!

Benjamin Franklin by Jacob Blackman
Thomas Jefferson by Vittoria La Matta
Abraham Lincoln by Julia Lewis
Davy Crocket by Owen Uitenbroek

Thank you for reading!
