Once you’re officially on Team SCM, set up your fundraising page and share the link with your friends, family, and extended network via email and social media. PSO ACTIVITIES
PSO Spotlight: Friends of the Arts
The PSO Friends of the Arts supports the SCM Music Program. In particular, we support the Christmas Book Fair Concert and the Dominican Sisters Christmas Concert and Dinner. In the coming days, you can help with these activities by donating poinsettias for decoration, donating a side dish or dessert for the dinner, or volunteering your time driving the sisters to SCM! More details will come soon on how you can help with these events.

Saturday Soccer
Saturday Soccer just wrapped up the 2018 season. Despite the rainy start, we had quite a successful year with over 55 Primary and Lower Elementary children participating. Many thanks to our awesome coaches: Edgar Aburto, SCM alumna Luca Cohen, Jim Hall, SCM 11th year Umberto L., Antonio Poy, Chris Sheppard, Adoph Trudeau, and Devin Weiss!
OUR FAITH IN ACTION
November is the month of All Saints. Please stop by the wooden table in the Welcome Center, or click here to learn more and find suggestions about books to read and ideas to share as a family.
SPORTS
Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball kicked off their season versus Sacred Heart Crosby at home on Tuesday, November 13. The games were hard-fought and fun to watch. Girls Varsity secured the win. Unfortunately, Boys Varsity came close, but lost by three points in the final moments. Come out and support the next home games for both teams on Monday, November 26, as our student athletes take on Queen of Peace.
HIGH SCHOOL CORNER
Welcome back to the High School Corner!
This year in the High School we have been given the opportunity to take Advanced Placement classes in order to prepare for AP tests in subjects including environmental science, Spanish, and human geography. Most recently, we have been preparing for the AP English test. Earlier in the year, we learned about the tools used in rhetoric such as diction, appeals, and parallel structure. More recently, we analyzed different literary works, identified the rhetorical strategies used, and discussed their effect. Being able to compose a rhetorical analysis is an essential skill in AP English, and this is what we have been working on in class for the past two weeks. When presented with a piece of rhetoric, the student needs to be able to examine and write in-depth commentary on the speaker’s choices. During the test itself, the essay needs to be written in 40 minutes.

This past week, we read pieces other high school students wrote during the AP test and used them in order to understand the scoring system and what sets an essay apart. We have also written essays that analyze speeches given by John F. Kennedy, Madeleine Albright, and Mark Antony. So far, this has proved to be a challenge (analyzing an argument in such depth is no easy feat), but we will get there!

Thanks for reading; we’ll be back next week!
