Christmas Card Design Submissions Due Monday, November 9
We encourage our student artists to use the upcoming weekend to finalize their designs for St. Catherine's 2020 Christmas card. The artwork must depict the Holy Family and fit on a 4x6 postcard. Students may submit as many drawings as they like. Be sure to write your full name on the back of each submission!

Submissions are due on Monday, November 9.
Knights of Columbus Thanksgiving Turkey Fundraiser
Make your holiday preparations a little easier and enjoy a smoked turkey for Thanksgiving while supporting St. Catherine’s Montessori! Knights of Columbus Houston Council #803 is selling 10 lb. whole smoked Thanksgiving turkeys for $60.00 as part of their annual fundraising activities.

For the third year, St. Catherine's has been chosen to receive a $20.00 donation for every turkey purchased by members of the SCM community. Proceeds will support the school’s operating budget. Click here to learn more and to reserve your turkey. All orders must be placed by Friday, November 20.

BRINGING WISDOM TO LIGHT
A Message from Sarah Lewis, Director of College Counseling
Last week we were fortunate to have an excellent “Admissions 101” virtual presentation by representatives from Rice University and The University of Arizona. They discussed the various aspects of college fit, building a college application list, and the intricacies of financial aid and merit scholarships. If you did not have the chance to attend, please watch the Zoom recording. They also provided us with a helpful template for comparing financial aid offers and a slideshow with basic information about the landscape of Texas public and private colleges and universities.

Seniors are putting the finishing touches on many of their applications, and the fall recruiting season is winding down. This month we have virtual visits from The University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering, Willamette University, Washington & Jefferson College, and Tufts University. These visits are open to all 10th-12th graders as they research colleges and build or finalize their application lists.
This week, my recommended read is a recent blog post by Rick Clark, dean of undergraduate admissions at Georgia Tech. Rick is highly respected and very active in the industry in sharing general admissions advice with students and parents. He emphasizes approaching college admissions as an experience through which to grow, rather than a process to master, and keeping an open mind about where a student may go.
INSIDE & OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM
Elementary Famous Persons Day
Students in Mr. Jaime's, Ms. Kristen's and Ms. Veronica's classes recently hosted Famous Persons Day in their classrooms. Students in these classes researched famous people in history and gave presentations dressed as their chosen person.

HEALTH & WELLNESS
Tip of the Week:  Supporting our Immune System Through Managing our Stress

A Message from Sandra Espinosa, SCM Counselor and Health Care Coordinator
Dear St. Catherine’s Community,

I invite you to take a few moments to pause and take 3 deep-belly breaths with me if you feel the need. The last several months have been tough. An ongoing pandemic whose end date is unknown, social unrest throughout the U.S., and a contentious election with results still being counted as I type. This, on top of the everyday challenges and hiccups that we experience can place a huge overload on our brains and emotional well-being. Although stress is part of life, when the stress becomes chronic and lives in our bodies too long, it can have negative effects on our immune system.

There will also be an alumna from our graduating class of 2020 in attendance at both sessions to fill you in on what life looks like after the High School. So get all your burning questions regarding the SCM High School answered on Thursday, November 5, from 2:00 – 3:00 pm or on Friday, November 6, from 10:00 – 11:00 am.
