COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS
Community Garden Day is Saturday, October 13
The PSO Friends of the Garden is hosting a Community Garden Day on Saturday, October 13 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. All are invited to come out and help prepare the SCM grounds for Fall Fest.
PSO Fall Fest is October 20
Join the SCM community at the annual PSO Fall Fest. The festivities start at 4:00 PM and include a day of spending time with friends and families, eating great food, and playing games—Giant Jenga, Kick Ball tournament, Giant Connect 4 and more. Music by Nuri Nuri. Drinks and popcorn will be provided. All you need to do is provide a potluck dish (that feeds at least 10) of your favorite salad, side, main course, or dessert.

You also will be able to get a sneak peak of the classroom art projects created by our children for the Night Owl Soirée auction, and see the winning design for the 2019 Steps 4 Students SCM Team t-shirt!
Montessori Journey Spots Available
There still some available spots for the October 19 and 20  Montessori Journey. This two-day parent education event will give you hands-on insights into each level of your child’s Montessori experience. Reservations are required. Please contact Emily Blackman at eblackman@stcathmont.org to reserve your spot.
PSO Book Free For All Begins Monday, October 15
You can bring your books—children, YA, non-fiction, fiction—to the bins in the Welcome Center starting Monday, October 15. Books will be sorted and ready for you to peruse at Fall Fest. Remember: You do not have to donate a book to pick up new title at the book swap.
ADVANCING THE MISSION
Gala Tickets Are Going Fast!

The deadline to RSVP for Night Owl Soirée is Monday, October 15. A limited number of spaces are available, so purchase your tables and tickets today!
Auction Item Deadline Extended to October 19
The gala planning committee calls on all parents to assist in procuring additional items for the silent auction. An auction donation form was sent home in today's Red Folder to help assist with item requests. Additional donation forms and full solicitation packets are available at the Front Desk and online.

As you go about your day, please drop off donation forms and packets at your favorite businesses, or with anyone you know who could donate an item to the auction. Please think of goods that might be of interest to you or your children, or of holiday-themed items to help bidders prepare for the approaching gift-giving season.

Thank you for helping us make this year's gala auction a success!
PSO ACTIVITIES
PSO Spotlight: Friends of the Garden
PSO Friends of the Garden meets every Friday morning after drop-off to assist SCM Naturalist Blas Espinosa with any of the school's gardening needs. Examples of previous Garden Work Day projects include caring or tending the fruit trees in the orchard and around campus, helping with classroom gardening projects, beautifying outdoor spaces in preparation for school events, setting up new beds, harvesting herbs and produce, and caring for the grounds at Japhet Creek.

Additionally, the last Friday of every month is devoted to  Teaching Garden Day, during which Blas leads a garden session to teach different gardening techniques and share information on harvesting.

The Friends of the Garden also host Community Work Days to help prepare the campus for events. The first one of the school year is Saturday, October 13 from 9:00 AM-noon. Families are welcome, and snacks and drinks will be provided. Come out and help us to prepare the grounds for Fall Fest .

We are so grateful for your continued support to keep our school beautiful!

SPORTS
Cross-country Running at SCM
Last year, St. Catherine's added cross-country running to our athletic offerings. Cross-country is open to students in the 6th grade through High School. The season runs from August through the end of October. Members of the SCM Cross-country team and their coaches practice at 6:15 AM four days a week to get ready for their meets. For more information about the cross-country team or the upcoming basketball season, please contact Athletic Director Nicky Mintz at nmintz@stcathmont.org.
Come out and support the soccer team for their last home game of the season on October 11 at 4:30 PM on the SCM soccer field.
HIGH SCHOOL CORNER
Welcome back to the High School Corner!

The college search is a monumental part of everyone’s high school experience. On October 2, we volunteered at the annual Catholic High School College Fair held at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory.

As the 150+ university representatives arrived, we, along with students from other Catholic high schools, acting as student ambassadors, led them to their booths. We were able to interact with multiple representatives on a personal level, learn about the institution they represented, and tell them about the SCM High School. It was exciting to introduce ourselves and represent St. Catherine’s Montessori.

Another component of the evening was each sponsoring high school could decorate, in the theme of their school, tables in the hall where the representatives had dinner. In addition to information about our school, the SCM tables featured gifts of handcrafted soap and honey from the Adolescent Community.

Ms. Lewis, our college counselor, commented that some attendees complimented our helpful attitudes, articulate manner of speaking, and mature conduct. We were proud to represent our school and look forward to volunteering at this event in the years to come!

Thank you for reading!
